Default P0463 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input

Thats my 2010 F150 XLT, lot of rust, 4.6L engine 24 valve, extended fuel tank,

my gas gauge read funny once or twice, and now is reading "0" along with "- - - miles to empty" or what ever message.

QUESTIONs: where ELSE can I measure the fuel level sensor wires without pulling the tank or lifting off the bed? I could pry open a section of wiring harness and pierce the wires with pin-probes and clip on to them. I think I saw the wire colors someplace. Anyone have a link for the wiring harness?

CAN I: Take a simple resistance measurement if I were to disconnect the connector and get onto the sensor? WHERE?
OR Can I : Just measure the voltage between the sensor's two wires, (or one wire and ground?)

After reading many counteractions, I have determined that the PCM reads the resulting voltage from the wiper of a variable resistor, or "pot" connected to the float. One end of the variable resistor is tied to a 5v or 12v source. The other end is somehow referenced to ground at the pcm, the tank, or both. The wiper provides the reference voltage relating to the fuel level to the PCM, but the reference voltage never reaches the supply or ground potential in normal operation, (full or empty). So if there is a short or open condition anywhere, the the PCM will read the full supply voltage, or 0 volts, respectively... an "over" or "under" voltage condition, which is illegal, and will set a p0463 or a p0462 respectively. The PCM is pretty smart and sets other codes if if the wiper is intermittent (think of a dirty scratchy volume control on your clock radio)...or you fill the tank with Key On or Engine running. See p0460, p461, p0464 too. Don't know with Ford.

My guess is that the supply or ground reference has been lost by rust or a corroded connector, or I have a faulty sensor. It makes sense that it is a p0463 error in that case.

My left leaf spring replacement would be easier if I pulled the tank, would have to cut the bolt off otherwise. what a mess I am in. I'm not young anymore.

Best to all you F150'ers! and Thanks!
