Default P-Rated vs LT tires, whats the story?

I have a leveling kit in the mail for my '13 and now I'm trying to decide on what tires to run. I'd really like to run a 34" tall tire on the factory 20" wheel, maybe a 295/60 or 285/65, but I cannot find any options that are P rated. I would like to run a P rated tire because I don't really have a need for a load range E tire and I think my ride quality will suffer.

So I'm looking for options/testimonies on what size tires people are running and how their ride quality is. And also if an LT tire is too much for an F150, that will be on the pavement most of its life and occasionally haul/tow.

305/55-20 is about the largest you are going to find in P rating. I have LT and it nearly ruined the ride. used to it now, but was a massive downgrade.

look at the Nitto Terra Grappler and the Duratrac. think those go the largest while still being P rated (some sizes have both P and LT in the same size)

Can anyone else follow up with how their 295's or 285's are?

Or how their P-rated tires are doing?

I stayed with P rated tires for all terrains...bought General Grabber AT2s in a P rating...rides like a dream! 18s..the LTs will ride like a tank...yes many people have them and many will swear by them as when you get into the really big sizes you can only get them in LTs...but the ride quality is terrible! Plus your gas mileage will drop.

Look around, don't just go with what a few people say. Look at the online tire reviews and sales websites which give you comparisons and more than two options.

My opinion...Duratracs are a crap tire, they look like **** and belong on utility trucks! Thats what they were designed for...I hate them.

I really enjoy the p rated duratracs. Little drop in MPG but they handle real well and have proven capable

Pics of the larger P rated tires would be beneficial. I have a feeling they just wont look as aggressive as their LT counterparts.

My 2012 xl work truck has the 4 ply tires and my 2010 weekend driver has the LT tires. I'm in and out of both of them through out the week so I get a nice comparison. The truck that is running the 4plys and carrying a couple extra hundred pounds in the back rides like a big car (great ride). My weekend driver has LT tires because I wanted the look of bigger tires but they have a much harsher ride. I immediately regretted buying the LTs because the ride was alot worse but they do look better. The LTs ride worse but drive alot better when your at highway speeds. The LTs are solid at speed. No sidewall movement. The 4plys are spongy and bouncy at 70 mph. Not the LTs.

Bottom line 4ply rides better but LT drives better. Bigger tires will look better but you'll lose mpg and a little power.

Too many flats with P rated tires when I was working. After hurricane Katrina in the New Orleans area the roads were littered so bad most trucks went with LT 10 ply tires for toughness against cuts and flats. Big improvement over the P rated tires. Now that I'm retired I still prefer the all terrain tread and looks but don't need the extra tire weight and performance loss...went with the P rated Toyo's and for my needs they're great!

I had LT275/65R20 Toyo OC AT2s on my last truck and I have 285/65R20 BFGs on my current one. the ride may be a tad bit harsher but to say it's "ruined" is a bit of an exaggeration. if it were that bad, I don't think 75% of the members on here would have them.

275-60-20 Toyo ATII (same as Paw Paw) were largest I've found that is P rated. You get a 33" tire just not as wide. I've been running mine for 30k miles and the ride is great and all-terrain tread has had its benefits besides just looking better
