Post Overdrive and Break in

Hey guys,

Purchased a nice new ruby red FX4 Ecoboost a mere four hours ago and already loving it. Of course I do have a few questions, one of them being how to turn off the overdrive? I am used to breaking in an engine for the first 1500km with overdrive off to keep the revs a little higher while cruising and cycling through gears. Going from a 2001 its a huge change one of them being no button on the column shifter to do so!

Also since I know this will pop up in conversation and I am curious, how have you guys gone about breaking in your eco's?

Thanks in advance!

For those that love em like I do, here is the new ride!

If you have a center console shifter, I just remove 6th gear from the drive equation and drive as normal or engage the M/T button below the +/- buttons. Don't recommend driving in Manual as the truck is so quiet inside, I cant hear when to shift with the radio on...lol Those with column shifters have to weigh in.

Mine is 7 days old...though it's a 2012, nobody bought it and it sat on the lot for 14 months and had 212 miles... seems around here, nobody wants a 6.5' bed on a 4x2 SCREW... Love the truck and got STUPID discounts on the truck since they had it on the lot for so long.

BTW, Awesome looking truck!

Cheers
SG

If you have a Tow/Haul switch, that'll raise the shift points and lock out overdrive.

Same deal. If you have column shift use the +/- switch to remove 6th, or click the tow/haul button on the end of the shifter.

2011-2013 do not have overdrive. As stated above, you can lock out any gear, or use tow/haul mode.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. Read the owners manual, it will tell you how you should drive for the first 1000 miles. It doesn't say anything about locking out the gears, and running the engine at higher rpm's. Of course, it's your truck to do with as you please. Congrats on the new truck, and welcome to the forum.

That's my understanding as well.

Just don't tow for the first 1000 miles, and vary the speed periodically going down the highway. I normally just don't worry about it because these motors are seated just fine from the factory.
