Ordering A Truck?
Hey I was wondering if anyone had any info on ordering a truck.
Do u go into the dealer and pick what You want, work out a deal and give them a down payment? I am not to sure about all of this because with my 07 I just walked into the lot to and picked one of the trucks on the lot.
thanks

What ever you do before you sit and bargain with the dealer, decide on the truck you want with the options. Then go to Edmunds.com and build that same truck to include the options. It will give you the dealers invoice cost. Always, always, deal from the invoice cost NOT the MSRP!!! Even if the dealer gives you a copy of the invoice go to the site and get your own. I bought my truck more than $4000 below invoice.
I ordered mine on April 24th and I'm still waiting for it to come in! I couldn't find one on the lot at 4 different dealers, so I ordered. However, it is the longest wait I have ever endured! LOL! Mine is due in on June 15th. I went to the dealer with a list of what I wanted and he filled out an order sheet right there in front of me. Then he printed me a copy and took $500.00 from me! He said they had to have $500.00 deposit to order the truck and it was not refundable if I backed out of the deal.
BTW, I get the "A" plan so there was no negotiating. Sounds like I should have done like GymRat. The "A" plan does not get you that low.

I ordered mine on April 9 and it came in on May 21. I test drove a similar model but did not like the color. I had the dealer pull the invoice of the FX4 I drove and I made a few changes from there.
I am really surprised the dealer required a non-refundable deposit. I would have walked. If the dealer can't move an ordered truck then he must not be much of a truck seller. I had to pay no deposit and even drove the truck for a day before agreeing to a deal. I did negotiate the price prior to delivery and ended up about 22% off MSRP. Just a bit over X plan pricing before tax, title, license.
In any event know what you want when you go in to order. They should be able to run an invoice on the spot once the data is entered and you can negotiate from there. I would not reccomend a non refundable deposit. Any deal you strike make sure it is in writing and signed by you and the sales manager/dealer principal.

I haggled walked a few times, and then finally was ok with the price,
But what I found very strange was the saleman went and filled the survey on his own and put excellent everywhere, Like " could I do that please."
then he says if I put just a very good, he would be in trouble. Ha! Ha!
Get my truck, which was supossed to be aready the next evening, they forgot to put the free bedliner in it, Go back to put bedliner in it, Ok. then he phoned me back saying the preperation log (put into system) was never done so I have to go back, no big deal but I would not HAVE PUT EXCELLENT SERVICE EVERYWHERE, for a couple of reasons,
He says I offered you a test drive, I says No. (I didnt need one anyways as I have driven F250, f150s for years) He said Yes I offered you one, checks yes, I just said Whatever Bud, If you say so!!
There was a XTR dark red, I was looking at, and he said it was sold, its still there with the friggen price in the window, so I know he was lying on that one, But Im happy with my BLUE XLT, He is a ****tard in my books, but doesnt matter I like my new truck.

I was happy with the deal I got on my 09 Screw XLT 4X4. I managed 26.4% off MSRP. (Not counting the Texas/OK package discount of $1000)
Was pretty lucky on the timing. Purchased in mid March after the abysmal Feb sales numbers came in. Dealer had a LOT of trucks on the lot.

So far I've been back to my dealership twice to get a bedrail fixed that THEY scratched all to hell and back before the truck was ever purchased. My salesman, (who has always done an excellent job for me) said that he thinks some other retard that works there used my truck to take out the garbage can and scraped it up as they put the can in the back of the truck. They showed the owner of the dealership, who promptly told the service department (the TRUE morons) to order me a new one. They call me the next day (which I thought was a little too fast) and tell me that the part is in, and I could come by anytime. I go after work and they pull my truck in, and then come back a few minutes later and say that their secretary mistakenly printed my ticket, and that the part wasn't in. Okay, I says, and go home. They called me yesterday to come back, so again, I get there after work, and this time, the part is the wrong size. Too long and too skinny... So now I'm stuck waiting AGAIN. They said they ordered it using my VIN number this time, to which I replied "Don't you think you should have done that in the first place?"... This is why they lost my service money a long time ago.
