If you're gonna use it for nav, go factory, as it's easily on par with Garmin for most people. "10x better"? No way. And I've owned quite a few of both.
Ya everybody is different. I went shopping for a truck with nav on my "must have" list, but after using it on a few test drives I was turned off of it. I just think that a garmin is much more comprehensive with a better display and directions. I guess my suggestion would be to go test drive, and spent a decent mount of time playing with the nav unit and se if you like it.

I looked into when I bought my truck and opted out. I added a far better sounding aftermarket system for less money, and from what I had read and heard, a Garmin does a better job as a nav unit and is more reasonable for map updates.

What I lost:
Backup camera (wasn't of interest to me)

Steering wheel controls (never used them on the mustang when I had them anyways) although I can add them any time.

The clean "built by ford" factory integrated look.

What I gained:
Much better sounding and higher output audio system for less $$$ with way more options to fine tune the output.

Better quality and more reliable hands free (just my opinion)

More room for future upgrades if I choose (DVD integration for the rear, additional speakers and amps if I choose)

Flexibility to customize my system any way I want, and still likely be under the 2500.

Right now, with the HU, speakers and NAV I have (including lifetime free updates) I am only about 1300 deep. Still plenty of room to go.

But, if you like everything to work right out of the box, and have that clean factory installed look, the 2500 is worth every penny and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I was undecided on the Sony/Nav when I bought my truck and actually tried to find a new truck without it. The truck I really wanted came with it, so I ended up getting it. After using it for over a week now, I can say that I am glad I got it. I think it's well worth the added cost.

Having everything built into the truck is a huge plus. As others have said, you can watch DVD's, check the weather, movie listings, gasoline prices, etc. The nav is excellent and the steering wheel controls and voice control absolutely rock. The huge backup camera screen is awesome. In my opinion, it's the difference between just having a truck and having a luxury vehicle.

The biggest plus of all is that passengers and friends are totally floored when they see it and hear it. The Sony/Nav system is the first thing they notice. It doesn't matter if it's the huge backup camera or the weather map, every person that sees it says "Wow, that is so cool" ...

This tells me one thing - The Sony/Nav system is really free. Why? Because when it comes time to sell this truck, the system will pay for itself in resale value. You can add a Garmin, aftermarket stereo, aftermarket camera, etc.. and it will just not impress people the same way the factory unit does.

I use my phone for GPS, but a garmin unit would be 10x better than the factory nav. Just my opinion
Thats good to know. I think I will just get it. In the future it's good to know that there is a harness out there. Anyway If i want to keep the fac sony/nav HU what do I need to hook up my arc audio amp and sub box? Thanks..

Default Didn't Want It, Now I love it!

My truck was a good deal, and it came w/ Sony Nav. Was not a "must have for me".

However, it is so much more than Nav, I get touch screen Climate Control, Sat Radio, The back up camera is cool with the wheel track overlay.

The blue tooth for my phone is great. I use the voice commands for calls and choosing songs from my I-Pod. It also has Jukebox, where you can copy CD's on a internal Hard Drive.

Plus you can have your own personal pictures loaded for your screen wallpaper.

Other sound options may have these, i'm not sure. This system is really cool!

I know everybody's reasons are different but just courious...
TIA....
Is it worth it ? Hell no.

Do I get it ? Hell yes.

I love gps, but hate the power cord and mount nonsense. I also like the gps controlling the radio volume when it talks giving instructions.

I like the much bigger back up camera, but to be honest having the screen in the rear view mirror makes way more sense.

I like large touch LCD control screens. I'd have one show a picture of a toilet handle that flushes it when the screen is touched if it were available

As a stereo system, it's an embarrassment. 700 watts my ***. Both For and Sony should be embarrassed. I've had Craig systems in my teenager car bought from Kmart in the 70's sound better.

Well, at least I can still roll the windows down in the truck LOL.

So, is it worth it ? No. Should you get it? Probably. It sure don't hurt resale value...

Ain't you glad you asked

If have it. I figured that if I had $20 for every time I was in a metropolitan area without the GPS (Garmin) and needed it, that would be more than the "net" cost of the factory navigation.

Thats what I thought at first too but after having it for a while i am used to it now and like it 1000x better than my friends in the rear view mirror. Its just too small and you cant see it very good but its definitely better than nothing. Everyone who rides with me and has one in the mirror likes mine better, lol!

I love mine.

The directions from it are downright AWFUL compared to my other Garmin, but the integration and camera make it worth it.

Hello all, I have searched over and over and cant seem to get an answer, the question has been asked here but I dont see the answer...Maybe Im blind! Anyway Is there an adapter to use if you want to keep the factory nav/ HU and just bypass the sony amp. IE I want to replace the sony amp with an aftermarket with as liitle hassle as possible.

Stock HU------>harness???-----> aftermarket amp--->speakers

Thanks for the help.
