Default Towing mirrors, auto dimming is possible.

Here is page 95 from 2016 F150 owners manual.

You won't know how much you'll miss the auto-dimming feature until you don't have it anymore. Also, I don't like how the towing mirrors look on the vehicle, but that is only my personal view.

Pertinent qualifier: "if equipped"
That entire excerpt regarding auto-dimming mirrors is absolutely no proof that that feature exists on tow mirrors. I have yet to come across any actual evidence of a factory Ford F-150 tow mirror having the auto-dimming feature.

Heck, the factory navigation in my 2004 Expy has an actual button with a phone icon on it, but it does absolutely nothing because Ford never implemented the feature provided by the OEM manufacturer of the nav unit.

Again, just because it's in writing or there is a button for it, doesn't mean that that feature actually exists or implemented.

I forgot to add that you're also quoting from a manual for a completely different, newer generation of F-150; this discussion is with the previous generation, which a 2015+ mirror is not a direct replacement.

hmm this is becoming a good read, I never noticed the Auto Dim feature on the stock mirrors and I and had the stock mirrors from day of Purchase Aug 2013 to Feb 2015 hmm interesting oh well I love my Towing mirrors at first they were huge and overpowering but I got used to it and love the Look!! The stock mirrors were pretty nice!! Unrelated but just to show how small of a mirror i used to have on my car vs my truck

Previous Car

At 19 bought my fX4

Funny, we both owned 2 blue vehicles in a row. The mirrors on my ranger were the newer larger style a lot of guys swapped to.

On this truck I'm not feeling the tow mirrors and don't wanna look like the dodge morons who have invisible loads.

What about these?

Seems like a cheap alternative.

As for the debate about auto dimming, you can tell if it's there by looking at the mirror. There is a ghost border at the edge.

I have them...love the blind spot portion. It throws a ton of headlamp glare at night. I like the puddle light and the turn signal, but would consider swapping them out. Has anyone done this swapping out the tows to a more standard mirror?

Though this may provide more information than what you are looking for, this is a common swap for those wanting power folding, either because they have manual folding or tow mirrors:

I don't know what your situations are but I have absolutely no glare from my tow mirrors. Could be my lift, I suppose.

Probably, your convex would be pointed more down compared to a stock truck.

It might be the way I have them aimed too. I have mine where I can just barely see the side of the truck. I'll get a pic later when I get home from work.
