opinions on how to improve gas milage
Hello,
I have a 2014 Lariat extend cab with a 5 L. My mileage averages about 14/100 K highway which is terrible! I was considering the cold air intake, chip and cat-back. Went to a garage and they said yes, we can do that BUT we think you'll get better results from the cold air intake, headers, throttle body and cat-back for the same price. Has anybody tried the second option mentioned and what is your opinion? I thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge with me.

Did you read any of the threads on the site? Cold air intakes aren't going to help you at all.
Have you reviewed what others get with a 5 liter engine? 14 is not horrible if you're driving 75 or 80 MPG...

I know just the cold air intake won't do anything by itself, you need to do all 3 to see any effect. My 14/100 is in Kilometers not miles and that is driving at 100 kph or 60 mph

Here are some ideas
Programmer
Slow down
Control your throttle
Proper air pressure
Synthetic fluids
Highway tires
Loose all non essential weight
Lastly, get a prius if you want better mileage. It's a truck, they don't get good fuel mileage.

Where do you live? I travel between provinces regularly and see 12.0L/100km with my 5.4L trucks with 200K+ on them. My '13 Ram with MDS got 10-11/100km. I don't use cruise control as that kills your mileage. Make sure your tires are aired up.

what rear end do you have? I have had two 5.0 with 3.73s most are 3.55. good fuel mileage is anywhere 13-14l100km. I have seen low 12s high 11s in optimum conditions on the highway. There is a sweet spot around 1900rpm gives me great mpg. Having 3.73s hurt my mpg on the highway but I say 14 and under is good.

Umm, that's wrong.
Just the opposite, use the cruise.
I see better mileage when I use mine.
A motorcoach company I drove for, using cruise as much as possible was company policy....it saved fuel.
With the 5.0L, the hardest thing is keeping your foot out of it, 'cause it sounds so good.
