I put that much in my honda ridgeline.
Don't do it regularly, drive slowly so as not to stress the suspension and you'll be fine.

The weight depends on what class soil you are hauling. Also if you need 1 cubic yard of loose soil and are digging bank (natural) soil, one cubic yard of bank soil ends ends up being 1.3 CY of loose soil. If you just need loose, you only need to dig about .75 cubic yards of bank soil. If it needs to be compacted, you need to dig 1.1 cubic yards of bank soil. These are the conversion ratios. I know that 1 cubic yard of bank type C soil (clay) weighs roughly 2,000lb. I would say you will be fine, but do the math and see what you think. Much more than 2,000lb's and I would consider it unsafe.

I'd say go for it. Even my little Ranger I used to drive has hauled a bed full of dirt and a bed full of concrete.
Only issue would be if the dirt is very wet that is going to weigh probably twice as much.

Its the darn 20" rims I bet. I think I remember the weight ratings dropping as the rim size increases (along with every other lb adding option it has). You will probly crack a rim before anything else fails. Now I have to go look at my dr sticker again.

it's not the 20" rims - I have 20's and my sticker says 1531lbs

i live 3 miles from a gravel pit that sells top soil and i wanted 1 and 1/3 yards (which is still way over my payload capcity of 1600 pds) but it was only 3 miles... i went in and paid (they don't weight the top soil) and a guy jumped out while i was paying and said he'd put it in the truck... i get out there and see him putting an entire second yard in the bed and i told him i only paid for 1 1/3 yards... he says "just hooking you up bro" i was terrified driving it home my wheels were STUFFED in the wheel wells and i was convinced if it didn't break something, my exhaust was pushed high enough i was sure it was gonna melt some wires or something.... but it turned out fine. still i'd never do that again.
