I can't believe this horse is still being flogged. I'm sure NONE of us would have known what the OP meant by "wheels"......

LOL! Seriously, man, Nobody ever got anywhere with that phrase. It's already too late 100% of the time it is uttered. (or typed)

It's not a train wreck. That is improper terminology. Trains crash. Like airplanes.

With all due respect (that is the correct way to say it so someone doesn't get offended right?)

So I asked my dad this question last night at dinner. He has been in the auto repair business since he was 16 so 45 years worth of automotive repair, he is retiring/closing his business this year. He was also constantly taking automotive classes to keep up to date, and he owns (since 1979) an independent automotive repair shop.

Here is what I asked: What is the difference between a wheel, tire, and rim? (He looked at me stupid because I already knew what he was going to say after working with him from when I was about 8 until 25)
Here is what he said: The wheel is pretty much everything metal and the rim is part of the wheel, the rim is the outermost lip that keeps the tire secured on the wheel. The tire is separate from the wheel/rim and is mounted on the wheel and kept in place by the rim.

This was also confirmed by nearly every site that I could find...also none of the sites ever had the tire included as part of the wheel when I googled wheel vs. rim.
Also if you go to any wheel manufacturer, they list them as wheels, not rims, and they do not (generally) sell tires.

Are we really debating whether or not a tire and a wheel are different things? Wtf is going on in here lol

You buy tires to go on wheels. I have never heard anyone refer to the combination of a tire and wheel, as just wheels.

Back on topic though, I know many people who have had no issues ordering wheel and tire setups online. Granted if you have wheel/tire shops near you they might be willing to price match if you show them what you found online. It's good to support local business imo

Just a guess, but I think "rim" came from the days when wheels had independent spokes.

To answer the OP, if he is still hanging around this thread haha, I've ordered at least 4 different packages from discounttiredirect.com and have always been very happy. They balance everything before they ship out and never had an issue once they arrived at my doorstep. Their customer service is also top notch. Ive had to contact them a few times for different odds and ends and they have always taken very good care of me. Best of luck whichever route you take!!

So these "wheels"- are they motivated by an engine or a motor? And what's more important, torque or HP?

I agree with jdunk54nl's synopsis.
