Ok new ecoboost question
Ok so I just got a new 2012 FX4 Screw Ecoboost and I have a question that most of you might think is stupid but here goes. I was reading the owner's manual and it says to use regular unleaded fuel only, now here's the stupid part will the E10 87 octane fuel hurt the engine since it isn't a flex fuel engine. Please take it easy with answers, thanks!

E10 is fine, but jcain is right you will get better mileage with pure gas. There is a web site that shows stations with pure gas, the closest to me is about 200 miles away. I still average 20 mpg on the highway going 70 with e10.

The manual says:
-- Unleaded gasoline
-- Min. 87 octane
-- Max. 10% ethanol
-- Premium recommended when towing
-- No metallic or manganese-based additives
-- Use no additives/treatments
-- Fuel stabilizer recommended for storage

The difference in miliage is not a big deal, in fact on my truck it has made no difference at all. I have tried all fuel E10 octane blends (87, 89, 91, 93) and pure gas (non-oxygenated, non-ethanol, 91 octane), none have increased MPG's at all. Also as a side note when I was traveling through NoDak this summer pulling my 9000lb travel trailer I found no noticable difference in power between 87 E10, 87 pure, 93 E10, and 92 pure. Oh, and I got an astounding 8 MPG no matter what I put in it.

I'm getting decent mileage for a ~6k lb truck.
'87 is ~10% corn around here.
That said, were I concerned with fuel mileage I would not have purchased a truck. The wife gets much better mileage with her "crossover."

What everyone else said. Most stations will have some percentage of ethanol in it AND THANK YOU FOR READING THE MANUAL! I've seen so many threads that ask questions that are answered easily in the book that comes in the glove box. I was beginning to think they stopped putting them in the trucks.

Nebraska has lots of ethanol, usually the 89 is the 10% here.
I have always gotten 10-20% better MPG with 87 than ethanol blends (89) in every vehicle I've checked it with, and only about 2% more cost for the 87 full gas. I have not tried ethanol with the eco and with the exceptional mpg I see no reason too. Been using 87 and 91 non-ethanol depending on tune installed.
