Awesome! An oil thread.
I like this one.
Really though, I would like to go for the high dollar oil like Mob1,Royal Purple, etc, but I'll keep using the $30 oil\filter\tire rotation deal from Ford as long as they keep offering it because it meets the factory spec, it's documented, I get my tires rotated and if they screw up they get to eat it. I can't touch a deal like that anywhere else.
I believe they use a semi synthetic blend with Motorcraft filters, and I have my truck serviced well before the recommended date so I'm not worried about breakdown or sludge.
Check out Ford's web page under service if you are interested. They almost always have a coupon there.

I'm not a 5.0 expert; however, in my 5.4 I run Royal Purple, as most of the guys who hang out down at the post office--say its pretty damn good stuff!

check me if im wrong but i thought the same thing until i noticed upon a little closer look in the owners manual for this engine (the 5.0) it has changed to specifying for a full synthetic. now my 08 f150 w/5.4 does call for the synth. blend but i think this one is diff... and i cant find this oil (the full synthetic) in ford's brand at wallmart so im considering another brand hence my querry to forum members as to what everyone seems to like.. thanks

Just like EVERYTHING else I use Mobil1 in , every 12,000 miles is plenty. I just spin on a new filter @ 6,000 and top it off. I use to work at a Caterpillar dealer and we had an on site oil lab so I constantly sampled my oil, at 12,000 I keep hearing back that the oil still had ~30% useable life yet. That was on my Vortech supercharged T-bird which has a fairly abused lifestyle. On my new 5.0L with almost 8 quarts capacity, 12,000 should be easy.
