Default Oil Changes - "You can't go 7500 miles"

I went to Ford to get the oil changes today. There was a minimum 2 hour wait, so I went over to the carwash to get it done. They're known for being the best carwash around but they also do oil. I asked them to put in it what came out, which of course they couldn't tell me. I ended up getting full synthetic.

When checking out though - they guy informs me that I can't go more than 5000 miles between oil changes. But wait - that's on the sythetic blend and he only now realizes they put full sythetic in my truck, so I guess the back of the bottle says 6000 miles. Either way, he would NEVER recommend anyone to ever try going 7500 miles between oil changes.

WTH? Is he just that ignorant or did I get the wrong stuff? I know his job is to get me back to sell me more oil, but to twist things around with the numbers to make me come back more often, that's just downright dirty.

simple answer before the huge debate over pros and cons of changing your oil at what interval, etc. Ford says you can change your oil every 7,500 miles and if you prove to them that's what you did then you're covered against any engine damage. PERIOD

You can certainly go 7500 miles between oil changes. Do you trust the guy at the car wash or do you trust the engineers that came up with the maintenance schedule?

This is the oil that Ford recommends. Use it and you will have no problems.

LOL - their carwashes are, in fact, the best around. And they seem like a pretty reputable oil change place. I just felt it odd he would argue against the manual that it wasn't something I could do. Basically, his arguement was that the stick on the oil said to do it more frequently so that's what I should do. Who would have thought that an oil guy would try to get me to buy more oil changes, eh?

Do ya'll use the Blend or Full Synthetic?

5w20 motorcraft synthetic blend, just like the manual says. If you are going by the manual on change interval you may as well follow everything else it says.

don't think it's about "can you truct the guy more at the car wash more than the engineers at ford" type of debate. What about sludge issues? what about how you drive? how about......Ambient conditions. See, more to it than cutting down the guy at the car wash

Me personally, I wouldn't go 7500 miles on an oil change. I plan on keeping my cars more than the warranty period. It's ones personal preference. I asked myself the same thing a while back, and decided that I would cahnge in the middle of my 3k-5k oil change interval which would be 4K. All ones personal preference.

My wifes Hyundai says 3k on severe duty driving schedule, and 7500 on regular driving schedule. I change it at 4500.
