Depends on the motor. In the manual that came with my truck, which has a 4.6l 3v motor, it says the oil should be changed every 7500 miles. My oil maintenance light pops up at around 7000 miles typically. I'm assuming it's giving you a 500 mile warning.
My uncle has a 5.4l, and his oil maintenance appears at every 4500, so again I'm going to assume Ford recommends the 5.4l's be changed every 5000. This is purely based off observation.

According to the Ford manual, it's recommended that the 5.0 be changed every 10,000 miles with 5w-20. Also, don't listen to the dealerships because they tend to provide inaccurate information at times. When I got my truck they told me the oil needed to be changed every 3000 miles. Being oblivious, I had three oil changes before I made it to 10,000 miles on the truck. It wasn't until I happened by it in the manual that I become aware of the truth.

I have a 2010 f150 with the 5.4l. I change mine when the oil change light comes on. Ford engineers know what the motor needs so I choose to listen to them. They would not have set up the oil monitoring system if they did not want u to follow it. It's seems to turn on every 7000 miles or so to.

my 5.4 says every 7500, but i change mine every 5000 or less. No engine was ever harmed by changing oil to frequently and I do mine myself so they are very cheap. 7500 seems like a lot to me unless you are running full synthetic, the motorcraft oil is only semi synthetic. I grew up changing conventional oil every 3000 or less, and I may be wrong but Id rather be wrong on the safe side than go too long and ruin the engine. Oil changes arent that expensive, engines are, lol! When I change my oil I reset my oil life meter to 60% or 4500 miles, 100% is 7500 miles but im not a mechanic so dont take my word for it, thats just my theory. I do notice if I take it in they put the sticker on that wants me to change again in 3000 miles.
