Default Oil. 5 quarts instead of 6.

I'm going to change the oil in my 2012 3.7L and I have the new filter and a 5 quart jug. I ordered both from Walmart because it was the cheapest there and everything came except for the 1 quart bottle. Is it ok to change it and add the 1 quart as soon as I get it or is the 5 quart enough for like a week or so.

Why not wait a week and change it the correct way?

Fluids and CORRECT fluid levels are critical in an engine. Wait until you have the proper amount of oil to refill your crankcase properly before starting the job!

You didn't really say that you ordered a 1 quart bottle also, just that you ordered both (presumably the filter and a 5qt jug).

Why not just go buy a quart from pretty much anywhere?

Wait a week till the quart comes in. You don't want to run you engine a quart low.

When I see oil and/or filters on sale I will stock up for 2 or 3 oil changes.

Just go buy another quart, then when your other one arrives you'll have a spare. I ALWAYS have a spare quart of oil on hand, always.

Well around here the dealer changes oil cheaper than most any where else and they use ford products, take it there and let them do it correctly, sounds like your new to maintenance and no need to risk a motor to save a very little $

It really doesn't matter. Running your engine 1qt. low will not disrupt the space/time continuum. Yes it's nice to have it tippy top full, but 1 qt. down will have absolutely zero negative effect on how well it lubricates itself, unless you are extreme wheeling or running a slalom course.

If you have to ask maybe you should t be changing your oil.

please make sure the plug is tight and the filter isn’t double gasketed and that the filter is tight.

best of luck to you.
