Default Oh No- Not another MPG Thread!

Thought I would share my great mpg my '11 Fx4 5.0l (topper, road armor bumper w/ full guard, bilsteins all 4 corners, add-a-leafs, stock tires) got on a recent road trip to help balance out some of the negative mpg posts. Pics of trip A & B read outs to document.

I loaded up my truck with camping/fishing gear, coolers full of beer, water, food etc, my big dog, pontoon boat and went on another road trip over the July 4th weekend to fish a new river; I didn't tow the driftboat. Total mileage for the trip was 770mi up, down and over a few passes. I got 17.2mpg going to my destination, averaging 70-80mph with a light head wind. On the return I decided I would go the speed limit- 65-75mph- and got 19.6mpg; at one point the avg topped out at 21mpg but didn't stay there long. The avg hovered around 20.5-20.8 for about half of the return trip. Total avg for the trip was 18.3mpg. The weekend before I towed the driftboat on an 8hr roundtrip and got 15.2mpg, also loaded to bear with coolers, gear, dog etc. Life is good.

1- Highest reading when I decided to make this post.
2- Avg mpg on return
3- Total mpg avg.
4- Nice 19-20" brown caught on a parachute adams.

Nice Brown Trout and great mileage too.
Both of my Fords do just a little better than the Ford MPG estimates also.
It's a matter of driving style and maintenance.

Nice going Sir! And nice fish!

I would be delighted to be getting mileage like that! Especially towing!

Only time I have seen at over 20 is going downhill over the sierras to Sacramento when gravity is basically doing the work

Maybe of course it is something to do with what my wife says that i still drive the FX4 EB the same way I drove my Audi Q7!

I get better mileage heading east because there is almost always a tailwind, nevermind the minor loss of elevation.

Q7, nice! Old habits die hard- driving the EB like your Audi, and women pointing out such (bad) habits- but we know they mean well.

I avg 17 mpg in my '14 EB screw w/ 157 WB. With only 1600 miles it seems to be improving with break in. My '11 5.0 short box screw averaged about 15.5 - 16 mpg consistently during daily commutes.

Curious what others are getting w/ Ecoboost in mixed 50/50 driving. About to take it on a beach trip and looking forward to seeing how it does on longer highway jaunts with a loaded bed.

On a side note, that EB sure does pull hard. Very impressed with this motor ( I was a sceptic at first ). It is really a beast, and for those worried about a v6 working too hard and not being durable, not the case. Most of it's torque is produced between 2000-2500 rpm. That's some diesel like grunt!

I'm averaging 13 right now... used to get 16 to 17 avg but that was before new wheels and tires.

3.73 gear ratio still riding on stock tires- 275/65r18. I am waiting for them to wear down until I upsize to a better tire in the 34-35" range.

Here's an idea. Next person to start an MPG thread gets instantly banned.

Just my 2 Cents I have a 2012 screw xtr EB with 3.73 and maxtow mirrors and around 40,000 km i started to notice that my L/100km was going down. When i first bought the truck I would get 12.5 L/100km after break in and by the time i got to 60,00km i was getting 16.5 L/100km. So after a lot of reading I decided to change my spark plugs at 60,000km with the updated plug that they use in the 2013 EB and I can tell you what a difference. I made sure the gap on the plugs were .028 and my truck is better than new. More power, idles better, and the fuel economy is better than new, I went from 16.5 L/100km to 11.5 L/100km. I am in love with my truck again. Oh and on a side note change your air filter every 10,000 km even if it looks clean, change it I can buy a new fram filter for 12 bucks here in Canada so i'm sure its like half down in the USA. I can start to feel the power drop off and my L/100km will start to drop a bit when it is starting to get dirty.
