Default Off Road package/skid plate

It is my understanding that all an Off Road package is is upgraded shocks and skid plates.

I have done some looking around and not really sure what I am looking for/at.

I am upgrading the shocks, but is it possible to get the skid plates as well? Is it something I could install myself with basic tools?

Thanks in advance, and Merry Christmas!

Search for RCI skid plates.

And yes, should just bolt on.

The exterior mechanically, is just shocks and a skid plate.

I'd try Amazon or eBay. Try 2009-2014 skid plate and see what comes up.

I'd also have to guess the non-threaded holes are pre-cast.. I've also only owned fx4's. So all I've ever done was make sure the bolts are tight occasionally...

Fx4 also has electronic rear locker. The shocks are far from "heavy duty". More like "light duty" off-road.

Stock fx4 skid plates are terrible. Go to RCI. If you have an ecoboost call them and they can swap in the heavier gauge front plate as well that protects the intercooler. They install easily and have a small removable access panel for oil changes. Get the fumota valve as well speeds up the oil changes drastically. I installed mine in the garage with a socket set. Easy stuff.

LOL no it doesnt! It makes them easier but it sure as hell takes a LOT longer to drain! If you change your own oil and don't mind waiting a bit, do it. If you take your truck somewhere, don't bother.

^^^ Fumoto does slow down the draining process but more than offsetting that is lack of mess when used in combo with RCI skids. I'm a fan of Fumoto, having used one on my old Wrangler TJ for years in combo with Skid Row engine/trans skid plus about to order one for my new 2017 JK Rubicon - again in combo with Skid Row skids...

Fumoto valve Does cut down on mess, just run drain hose right into oil container. Best thing for me is when son brings car we can drain hot oil without burning our hands.

RCI apparently doesn't work with lifted trucks? Which stinks.

The off road package also includes hill descent control and upgraded bed stickers that say off road (+5 hp)
Where normal trucks have the traction control off button in the middle of the dash, the off road package splits that button in two and one half turns off traction control and the the other half activates hill descent control.

I have hill descent and no off road package. Didn't even know until my gear installer had me test it on his property.
