Is this normal?

Ok on my quest to understand this engine, I have a new question. Should I be able to hear a whooshing, rushing air noise, with my cruise control set between 55 - 75? No noticeable load on the engine just cruising down the highway?

If it has to accelerate, then yeah you'll hear it. Also, ecoboost will get better mileage as it gets some miles on it, but don't expect 20+. Mileage is near the same with the eco and the 5.0. My 2011 started out at 14 mpg average, and after about 10k it stayed at about 17 for most of its life. Traded it in on a 2014 and back to the beginning.

I live in WV, so lots of hills.
I had a 2012 FX4 5.0 with 3.73 gears. I put 30,000 miles on it. The first 19,000 were all stock. Best mpg was 21.9 on a trip. My daily drive average was 16.7. Winter gas would drop in the 15's (sometimes 14's). I added a level and 295 70 18 Trail Grapplers. With an uncorrected speedo, it was at a 12.7 average the day I traded it.
In October, I traded on a FX4 Ecoboost 3.55 gears. I drove it about 1500 miles and then leveled it with 276 65 20 Duratracs. The day I leveled it, the average mpg was 13.8. Same conditions the 2012 was getting 16.7. Granted, this was winter blend fuel so realistically the 5.0 would likely have been in the upper 15's. So I experienced 1.5-2.0 mpg less. After the level/tires, my current average is 12.3. Again, uncorrected speedo. The Trail Grapplers were much heavier than the Duratracs (and wider) but roughly the same OD. My wife drives an Ecoboost Explorer Sport. It averages 16-17 mpg year round in the same drive and has a best of 24 mpg on a trip. Maybe 25- cant remember. We had a 2008 Expedition with the 5.4 3V 3.31 gears. It averaged 14.7 year round on the same drive.
This is only my experience. I have zero agenda. I loved the 5.0 for it's versatility. I love the Ecoboosts I own. I understand boost equals fuel consumption. I wasn't particularly a fan of the 5.4 3V. It was a pig in the Expedition and on top of that returned pretty average mpg. As far as the Ecodiesel, I admit it is intriguing. I applaud RAM for putting it out there. But, it is a weak engine power wise and cannot compare to the EB for towing and capability. It has been shown time and again in tests. But, for the average JOE that wants a truck for light duty, the mpg would be appealing. I would be interested in seeing Ford counter for the market that the RAM is appealing to. I personally would not jump on it unless it had more guts than the RAM diesel. I needed a truck for capability and understand mpg can suffer to be able to do the things I want a truck to do.
