So I am getting better mileage in town than on the highway....I can get 16 mpg in town without too much trouble, pretty happy about that number. BUT It drops to about 15.5 mpg setting cruise at 55-65 and down to 14.5 mpg setting cruise at 75.
I don't think I have ever owned a vehicle that I got better mileage in town than on the highway.....I am sure most will say wind, temp, yada yada, but this is the same day so that isn't in the equation, on any given day as soon as I get above 50 the MPG starts dropping. 50-65 should be the sweet spot....

^Weird.....straight up . I was gonna say you running a 4:10 rearend or something? Sure you feather the petal a pinch in town, but you have a lot of stop and go happening. I have 3:73 gears on mine and like most of us the roles are reversed when it comes to mpg's. :confused:

Hey guys, I had a 2009 F150 SCrew, 5.4 FX4 4x4, 6.5 bed. I bought the truck with high miles and when I sold it I had 190,000 miles on it trouble free! I really liked the truck and decided to get a new one....
The New one I just picked up is a 2012 Ecoboost 4x4, 5.5 bed Lariat SCrew 3.55 gears, with only 8,600 miles. The problem is that my old 5.4 was 3 - 4 mpg better than this one on the highway and in town!
They are similar trucks, similarly equpped, and I am babying the ecoboost to try to match what my old truck could get.
What is the deal? Is the Ecoboost a step back for MPG compared to the old 5.4?
I know more power equals more fuel but I am babying this thing I would expect it to be able to match my 2009!

It's a truck, why are so many people trying to get a few extra MPG? If your that concerned, buy something else-like a car. Really unrealistic expectations. Debating/comparing MPG is really pointless because there are so many variables involved, it will never be apples to apples. Stop looking at the MPG and enjoy the Ford truck!

Now that I think about it this quite possibly is the the worst highway mpg vehicle I have ever owned...it "might" be slightly better than my 1984 Chevy blazer....my 98 Chevy, 08 FJ Cruiser, 2002 Tahoe, and 09 Ford all beat this guzzlerboost.

If you think it's a pos then maybe you should get rid of it. You bought a truck that was driven 9k in 3 or so years. Vehicles need to be driven, maybe there is something wrong with it.

No I have only put 1000 miles on it... The previous owner did the other 8000. If I didn't know otherwise I would have guessed he got rid of it because of bad highway mpg...lol

May be you need to take it to Ford and have them reflash the ECU.? Have you told then of your mpg problem....because to be honest with you that Boost should be getting way better mileage.

I have an 2013 FX4, EcoBoost, 3.55 diff, I get 16-17 MPG (75ish mph) highway and 14-15 city on winter gas.
From what you are describing, it looks like you might be having an issue with air intake, possibly the Turbos not spooling up to proper speed, or a stuck injector, or a bad O2 sensor. I would start with the easy thing, checking the air filter. If that checks out ok, take it in, have them check the turbos, injectors and O2 sensor, to make sure they are working properly. After all with 9k on the ticker, it should still be under warranty.
As an example, My Fiesta dropped from 42 to 28MPG, other than the drop in MPG the car behaved "normal". I checked the filter, apparently a piece from a trashbag made it into the filterbox and was blocking about a quarter or so of the filter. I removed it and I was back to 42MPG.
Could also be winter gas, above mentioned Fiesta drops from 42 MPG summer gas to 38 MPG on winter gas.
Since I am having trouble sleeping and i am bored, Here is an interesting fact about Diesels and why
The difference in price of Diesel engine and diesel fuel vs gas engine and gasoline fuel is not worth it, ever, you will never get ahead.
Diesel 22mpg (published MPG) at $3.89 = $0.1768 per mile
Gasoline 17mpg (personal MPG) at $2.99 = $0.1758 per mile
Ram Diesel Engine Option +$3200 (addition to Ram V8 base price)
Gasoline EcoBoost Option + $500 (addition to F150 V8 base price)
Over 100,000 miles
Diesel (engine+Fuel) = $20,880
Gasoline (turbo engine+fuel) = 18,080
A difference of $2,800
Over 5 years, that's only $560 a year, which is not really that bad, but you still have to consider that on average a diesel engine cost about 60% more to repair, and in cold weather, forget about getting one started if you forgot to plug in the engine block heater.
in short, unless a diesel engine gets 1.5x the fuel economy of the equivalent gasoline engine, you are better off with the gasoline engine.
(MPG numbers obtained from Dodge website and personal experience)
