*UPDATE*
  • field trial is over.
    Results:
    • no signs of chipping, flaking, corrosion, etc..
    • looks as good as the day it was installed back in Aug'2011.
    .
  • the prototype and sketch of modifications for the next gen' were handed-off today (15Mar2012) to the metal shoppe.
    • externally will look the same.
    • installation (if all goes right) will be "no-drill" and use the front license plate bracket mounting points.
    .
  • was told that the gen'II -blank- (pre-curved and with mounting tabs) should be available tomorrow (16Mar) or Monday (19Mar).
Bottom-line ...
By end of next week I should have pic's, options, and pricing. I have created an interested parties list of userIDs (current count = 37) and in addtion to a post and/or another thread, will be sending PMs.
Apologies for all the suspenders (er, suspense) and delay. Stay tuned kiddies. And don't touch that dial .....

I would like one of these as well. And I was wondering what you did to paint your grill I was told by a local body shop that the paint would peel off of the grill surround. Have you had any problems with this?

Added to interested parties list.

*knock wood* No issues todate (done Jun'2011 and originally installed on the 2009 STX I had at the time). Did receive a stone chip the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen, however, was easily touched-up and there was no fallout/spreading/flaking/etc. from the original impact.

Figure it's all in the prep' and the paint shoppe did (IMO) a great job.

Default Lower Grille - "Group" Buy Interest

*UPDATE*
The bare, grille -blank- has been received from the supplier and I've had a chance to prep' it. So .....

I've already PM'ed those who expressed an interest previously.

For those that may have viewed the thread and not posted or maybe I missed .....

------------------------------------------------------------

The design has been revised so that the grille is attached using the existing license plate mounting slots. It is now a no-drill installation.

At this point I am attempting to determine if there are enough actual buyers to qualify for the >= 20 group. If you're interested, please review the price list and let me know via a PM what (if anything) would be your choice. Also ... After reading this post, please let me know if you have any other questions or want additional information.

Then what ? Once the actual buyer count is established, pricing will be finalized and up-front deposits will be requested.

Why so pricey ? Co$t break-down - No excuses, just an explanation ...
Grille -blank-
  • ¼" billet, sheet aluminum.
  • grid pattern is made using a CNC waterjet cutting system. *Intricate, lengthy process.
  • top mounting brackets are tig welded -AFTER- the grid is cut. *Manual process
  • the amount is what the supplier bills me.
Mounting Clips and Bolts
  • anodized, coated pieces are purchased from NAPA with a 50% wholesale discount.
Labor and Supplies
  • all prep' work is manual and labor intensive. *5-6hours / grille.
  • grids are rounded and smoothed using ½" (for vertical girds) and 1" (for horizonal grids) strips of 80 and then 150 grit emery cloth.
  • bottom mounting tabs are ground-down and shaped to conform to bumper slots.
  • mounting tab holes are drilled using a drill press.
Powder Coating
  • there is a minimum set-up fee.
  • silver requires a 2coat process - base + clear.
  • the amount is what the supplier bills me.
Shipping Supplies and Handling
  • package spec's - 22" x 7" x 3", 3-5Lbs, ship-from ZipCode = 49306 (residential).
  • shipping boxes will be made specifically for the grille.
  • packing material will be foam padding and bubble-wrap.
  • UPS, ground, insured.
PayPalFee (3%) *Non-refundable.
  • could be waivered by ...
    1. buyer accepts fee when paying.
    2. payment is made as a Personal - Gift.
    3. payment is made via a check | moneyorder. *There will be 10business-day waiting period to clear.
