Brother's truck. He's claiming it needs a new chain as the chain is slipping.

Never looked inside one of these TOD t-cases. Is it possible that the chain stretched and is slipping, or is there a more plausible suggestion? Like the torque on demand pieces making bad noises...?

Also, best suggestion as to the Borg Warner number for a CL7Z-7A195-E? I'm thinking it's BW4417. But this is a fairly critical piece of the puzzle when it comes to ordering aftermarket parts...

Yes it is possible if he has been driving it on pavement while in 4X4. The strain will stretch it enough for it to slip on the gears when accelerating or when pulling hard. If you drive it really easy it won't. At least for a while. When you press hard on the gas you'll hear a popping sound and feel the truck studder and fail to move.

Back in the 70's I had a Jeep J-10 truck with full time 4X4. In normal operation it was basically AWD, but there was a switch that worked on vacuum lines that would lock the transfer case into true 4X4. At some point before I bought the truck the vacuum lines had gotten reversed and I was driving in 4X4 all the time even though I had the switch in the proper position. I was right out of high school and knew not to be in 4X4 on pavement, but I was too inexperienced to recognize the problem until the chain needed replacing. It wasn't a cheap repair in 1977.
