I just sold my wifes car private party but we did a courtesy trade at the dealer. The dealer does all your paperwork for you no hassle and you get your tax break. It was my first time selling private party and it was so easy. I dont know if thats an option in every state but its worth looking into.

Yep, my dealer offered to do the same with no extra cost. Takes a lot of the risk out if you were to get a buyer short on money or whatever might happen. It also allows me to take advantage of the trade in rebates they currently have.

All you have to do is see the difference between the KBB price for private part and dealer to see how much cash you are leaving on the table. I guess if you can afford giving up a few thousand for the convenience, its certainly the joy path.

Just sold my E-150 and 04 F150 in a few days. Second or third looker took it each time and paid cash on the barrel head. Not a lot of hassle for the loot and feeling better than having a salesman promise me a high trade in - only to add it back on the new truck.

Inventory is short? That sounds like a typical dealer BS line. Just drive around and look at all the Ford dealers. I see tons of F-150's on the lots.
A quick online search of two big Ford dealers in WI, I found 50 F-150's in stock At Les Stumpf Ford in Appleton and 44 F-150's in stock at Bergstrom Ford in Neenah. And these two dealers are only a few miles apart.

Don't sweat the rebates expiring. The new ones will be about the same as the current ones. The rebates are better now than they were in January so..... Also, with the 14's due in a few months, the 13's rebates aren't going to go down.

Just like memorial day, black friday, arbor day, and other holidays, July 4th is what they are gearing up for. That is probably why these rebates "expire" on the 1st. I would venture to say Ford will up the trade in rebate by another grand along with maybe 500-1000 in other rebates then. (last year it was Visa gift cards at my dealer) Check out previous holiday deals on google.

I would trade in. Selling outright has become a hassle these days. Your usually only going to get a little more than what a trade is and the savings on taxes and hassle is worth trading in. NADA/Kelly Bluebook only have a 2-3 k difference in pricing and most people want a deal and are going to drive down your cost below bluebook to feel there getting a deal and letting people test drive vehicle and with todays nutjobs out there,,no thanks. I just traded both my SD and wifes Odessey in. Easy and no hassle. Its over and done and were driving 2 new vehicles and the old vehicles are someone elses problem. Rebates are always around. The extra kicker is if FORD sent you the $750 coupon to use. Do what makes you feel good but if you miss out on a rebate or it expires or if interest rates change then you can wait it out or jump on it now.
