Default New PTM grill, but what insert?

I'm replacing my 2014 XLT chrome on chrome grill. I just bought a new grill with a paint to match surround and I plan on gutting the rest and installing either a mesh or billet grill. I'm not sure what grill yet, but found the part numbers are different for 2012 or 2014 models.
I know the inside design changes but I thought the grills were essentially the same. Even on Tasca parts, they list the same grills for 2012-2014.

Here is the one I actually bought, it was listed for a 2014 but looks like the 2012 design. I bought this style as I found it a lot cheaper than the 2013-14 'c-bar' model:

I looked at a couple billet grills and then some mesh grills and all the manufactures list different part numbers for the 2012 and 2014 versions. Which one do you think will work best with this grill?

FWIW, that does look like a '12 or earlier grille.
See the photos.
The primered one is for a '13/'14. Pay attention to the shape of the corner.
The red one is what is on my truck now, a '12, with that gaudy looking chrome 6 bar. See how the corner is square? Sorta hard to see, but that's how they look.
It appears to me the whole thing is interchangeable thru the years. The surround lower corners are different. I hope I don't run into problems, since I'm wanting to use a "C" clamp insert, if I can find one. A new one, the complete grille, is around $350-$400.
I don't have a clue why Ford does things like this, same bodies '09-'14, but small differences.
Hope it helps.

Is there a Chrome surround, as opposed to the PTM? I'd like to have the Chrome surround with those exact "guts".

So it looks like #9L3Z-8200-D with #9L3Z-8200-BPTM guts. Does this makes sense?

and if it does, Pigeon are you willing to part with your "guts"? provided I can do the swap with a Chrome version.

Thanks for the comparison shots Johnday. That must be the real difference right there, the round or square inside corner. I was tempted to buy the ptm c-bar instead, but didn't think it was worth the extra $150, but I was hoping the surrounds would be interchangeable. I guess it'll be fine as long as I stick with the new insert idea and don't try to swap surrounds.

If you want the c-bar grill tasca just lowered the price to 288 for the ptm fx, and only 235 for the all black xl version.

Robotdog, here is the exact grill I have:

I will be willing to let it go once I have my new grill all put together. wait, are you talking about the guts from the 2012 version? those are getting hacksawed out so not really reusable.

That primered one is the "C" clamp grille for the FX2/4. That one is two piece and comes disassembled. I think I paid $380USD for it.
The other "C"clamp for an XL, is all one piece.
Figures I'd miss out on the price drop. I went with Fairway Ford for mine. I'd emailed Tasca, but it took them way too long to reply, plus when I did get a reply, my question wasn't even close to being answered. LOL

On edit; Well just said screw it!! I ordered the chrome "C" clamp from Fairway, it was actually cheaper than the paint to match FX2/4 grille, go figure!!LOL

If you'd want a black "C" clamp, with a chrome surround, I'll have one for you next week.

LOL. this is what I get for going to lunch.

Just so I'm clear, since we've been discussing a couple of things.

If you'd want a black "C" clamp, with a chrome surround, I'll have one for you next week.
Not exactly sure how that works.

What I have is the FX2/4 PTM "C" clamp grille. I'm using the PTM surround in place of the chrome surround for the XLT "C" clamp, so I can have a PTM surround, with the chrome "C"clamp.
I'll be selling the chrome surround, with the black FX "C" clamp insert, [grille].
Basically, I'm combining the two grilles to make one.
Go here, https://www.f150forum.com/f2/favor-please-379616/
My grille will end up looking like RNLComps grille, except in Race Red.
There is also a photo of the black insert in that thread.

Yeah I was considering the same thing as RNLComps grill. I was hoping the PTM surround would fit my current grill and I would have options, but doesn't seem like it. It looks real nice that way.

I have a chrome C-clamp grill too. I've been wanting a PTM one. I feel like it's a tall order without just painting what I have.
