How come Android phones work and apple doesn't? Why is it not apples fault? I thought some Bluetooth expert was saying apple had their Bluetooth map stacks screwed up and not set to industry standards or something which doesn't surprise me. They don't like to play nice with other manufacturers cause they want you to but all their stuff to get it to work together where my Android phone connects to an xbox and laptop and to my tv wirelessly, if you want to do that with Apple you gotta buy an apple laptop an apple tv, lol!

Can iphones connect to those Bluetooth speaker systems or Bluetooth sound bars for tvs like androids or do you need an apple dock?

Apple blows, their stuff is less functional and costs twice as much as the competition. The thing that confuses Apple users is that Apple is Apple, there is virtually only one product choice available if you want a phone or a tablet or a computer. With the competition there are hundreds of manufacturers and choices and quite a lot of them suck, especially the cheaper ones. However if you do a little research and get a top end version they are almost always better than the Apple version except in rare cases when Apple is the first one out. Doesn't take long for them to get surpassed though. They take far too long to improve the product and implement more features. The iphone was super hot and very cool for a minute but by the iphone 3 Android phones slaughtered them and continue to do so at a rapid pace. Android are always improving and adding new things, but apple phones have changed very little. They are finally starting to figure it out I think but I'm not sure if they will ever catch up to android. They will have to try to find a way to revolutionize the industry again like they did with the release of the first iphone.
This is wrong on so many levels. I work with the engineering teams from most all of the above mentioned manufacturers. You really do get what you pay for in this space.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this but on my 2012 with touch, iPhone 5 iOS 6, whenever I had my phone plugged into the USB I couldn't use the music app, it went into some kind of blank device connected mode, now with iOS 7 I have full control over the music app when plugged in.

When plugged into usb sync treats it like a flash drive and takes control so you can pay music. The update probably added a feature that Android has had for years, the ability to block this connection. When you plug it in does something pop up asking if you want to treat it as a hard drive or something or to just charge the device only?

That is correct, those steps do not work on the 2011 (Gen1 Sync). It only works on the MyFord Touch system. This is straight from Ford's website:

Attention, iPhone users! We’re happy to announce that SYNC can now read your text messages aloud to you while you're driving. Please note, to use this feature you must be running your SYNC with MyFord Touch system on software version 3.5.

If your iPhone is running a more recent version of iOS 6 (e.g., 6.1.3), it may support this new text messaging capability without requiring much set-up effort. First, follow the steps below to see if your iPhone can work with SYNC to read your text messages aloud.

This came out a couple of software pushes before, maybe about 8 months ago at least on my ipad. It used to have the accessory connected screen, now you have full control.

I hate how these threads with any indication of apple or android become flame threads. What it comes down to is what you prefer. Both manufacturers work with our brand loyalty. With android it's pushing the envelope with software features, apple is pushing hardware and consistency across their product line. It is really what you prefer. I have apple everything, but still would like some of the android options.

To get back to the thread, IOS7 is on my mini that's installed in the dash. Biggest complaint so far is the dash bezel is so close to the touch screen that I can't pull up at the bottom for the settings control panel because you need to start the gesture off the screen.

Yea, you gotta love the Android bashers who think it sucks because they had the cheapest Android phone you can get that their provider hands out for free that's two versions behind in the OS and loaded with crap apps from the manufacturer you never use and barely adequate hardware so it locks up all the time. They have no idea that the top Android phones have much better and faster hardware, most times better specs than Apple even, and a ton more features than apple. But like you say it depends what you want. Android has so many great features that Apple doesn't, and such tiny screens it really hobbles their functionality. I really thought they would get with the program and start rapidly improving after Jobs died but they just keep pumping out the same boring phone over and over rarely ever adding much to it cause chumps keep buying it. I use my phone for 99% of my Internet browsing and write tons of email and forum posts on it quickly and easily with a larger screen and swype Txt input. It would be very inconvenient and take much longer on an apple phone to do that having to zoom and one letter press at a time, lol! I do have the galaxy note 2 though, its a bit large for some people and I thought maybe too big at first but I couldn't live without it now, makes my pervious phones screen seem small and it was quite a bit larger than apple, I don't know how you guys can handle that small of a screen! But I guess when I had an apple size screen when they first came out I didn't do much browsing on them because it sucked not being able to see anything.
