New member question for crew cab owners

Retired and loving it!
I've had the 6.5 foot bed on both my 2010 SCREW and my 2012 SCAB. I don't think that either looked disproportionate, although the SCREW with the 6.5 IS a looooooooooooooooong truck.
I love the turning radius on my SCAB compared to my previous truck. I can actually pull into parking spaces in one shot, and make u turns on the street without having to back up.....miss the back seat space of the SCREW, but when I thought about it, we hardly ever had anyone back there, and the dog and cat still fit just fine!

I've had the 6.5 on both my 2010 and 2013 SCREWs. It's a mix of form and function for me. I think that a SCREW looks kind of stubby with the short bed. But I also move stuff on occasion that requires the longer bed. In all honesty I haven't had too much trouble parking it even with the extra length (in Northern Va). The backup camera and radar really help, and the turning radius is rarely an issue, except when others park poorly. Event parallel parking is fairly easy. Front park assist would really help though (my Lincoln MKS has that and it's great).

For me it's both.
I laugh every time I see a shortbed, why even buy a truck if you cant haul things in the bed.
Not to mention the "stubby" factor, looks like a wannabe truck.
just my opinion as to what a truck is.
I do miss my 8 ft. Bed but purchased the crew for family of four, 6 and a half will have to do.
My wife says it takes two tries to park "the bus",but her work lot is full. Even though my buddy is a dent wizard I still park as far away from anyone as I can, so it's a non-issue for me.
Well, that and "I'm an excellent driver" :-)

You wrote you initially wanted 'extra length' over your crew cab with 5.5' bed, and then wrote 'BUT I actually like the look of the 6.5' better'.
I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but the only crew cab F150 with 'Extra Length' over the 5.5' crew cab IS the CC with the 6.5', so translated it says 'Had an '03-CC w/5.5' and wanted the 6.5' bed, BUT I actually like the look of the 6.5' bed better.
That being the case, you would've contradicted yourself to agree with yourself.
And lemme tell you, I don't drink, yet that STILL gave me a Migraine.
I gotta know what/where I took a wrong turn here
I got right back on at your question however, so I can answer that.
I've always had 8' beds, as I've always had 3/4-1-tons, and ALWAYS choose function over form. With a truck, MORE space is always better.
Then I fell off the wagon last year and decided that I could drive a 1/2-ton daily, and being a Chevy owner, had no choice but a 5.5(actually a 5'8") bed. Only a minor inconvenience I thought initially, as I was gonna put a shell on it for hunting trips, and I COULD 'comfortably' fit my 6' frame in there to sleep.
NEGATORY! I screwed up and went off the Ginko Biloba for a few days, and I paid the friggen price for a year. IF you plan to USE your pickup truck AS a PICKUP TRUCK, you NEED a 6.5' bed MINIMUM. WHO THE HELL CARES HOW IT LOOKS..?(but FWIW I happen to like it-people who don't are not *REAL* pickup owners ).
Since your question is worded towards aesthetics, I can only assume you don't have any use for a full-size pickup, so get the one that looks better to you. Or I guess whichever one looks better to people on the internet...
Whatever floats your boat.

I dont see the advantage of the 6.5 over the 5.5, you cant put a sheet of plywood flat in either one. Now if you haul on a regular basis then yeah that extra foot might come in handy.

The back tires of my Gas Gas dirt bikes are too far back to close the tailgate with a 6'.6" box. It is nice to close the gate on an 8' box and not worry about your gear/tools/gas cans sliding down the road.
Less stressful to haul lumber or drywall with a bigger box also. I was freaking out last time I had to haul trim home from menards.

I went for practically, I only use my truck to haul my tool belt and boots n such! Plus since mines a CrewCab it fits perfectly in my garage leaving a ft in the front and 4ft behind!
