Default New Idea--What do you think? QR Bed Extender

Northlight Labs is exploring a Quick Release system for the factory Ford Bed Extender and we'd like to hear what you think about this idea.

We like the convenience of the bed extender...but...when folded in it takes up a foot of bed width, making it nearly impossible to load 4' wide cargo.

And, the bed extender is attached with a loctited bolt that takes a size 50 torx fitting and a lot of elbow grease to remove.

(FYI, there's just over 50" between the wheel wells, the width of a number of ATVs and Side-by-Sides).

You may remember, earlier one-piece tubular aluminum bed extenders had quick release pivots that made them easy to remove.

We're looking at possibly using a quick-release push pin with locking ball detents to replace the factory bolt.

I'll share some pictures of this idea in the next few days.

Let us know what you think!

Thank you,

Northlight Labs

I WOULD LOVE THIS!!! It drives me nuts sometimes, but I use the bed extender quite often so I cant remove it every time with ease.

I would be interested, but it would remove the security of having it bolted in unless there was a locking option.

I loved the tubed bed extender in my ranger, or should I say the idea of it. It was very cumbersome though. In or out only, when I took it out it was huge. At camping I'd worry about it growing legs. At home it took up so much space.

The plastic ones in the f150 that fold up are nice but cheap looking. The fact they either take up that small space in the bed or any space in the cab is still space being taken up when on the go. I'm just more interested in storage at home.

One of the reasons I don't have one yet!

I love my stock one. But I don't use it as an extender, I use it to keep my gas cans and other cargo from sliding foward in the bed.

I've never seen the need for a bed extender but it seems like there are a few guys here who would be interested in your product.

I'd be interested in a quick release setup.
