I don't want to use back up sensors because I don't want to drill into my bumper. So.... I'm thinking that I will remove the spare tire lock and replace it with a camera that will fit within the whole. Then power the camera from the towing via reverse lights power wire. I would assume there will be one. Then all I have to do is run an RCA to the cab where I will have a small 3.5'' monitor mounted somewhere out of the way. It too will be powered by the reverse lights. Assuming I can find the correct wire within one of the kick panels.
What do you think? Think it will work?

I'll try and find a picture to explain what type of camera and monitor I mean.
You may want to try this idea (So you can still keep the access to ur spear tire)
the screen around ($20) & camera $15 were sold separately on ebay - just run the rca cable like you said - works great & nice because you can turn around & look out back as you would plus have screen & also can see it in review mirror (I use it all the time)

That's pretty slick and cheap. Did you tie that to the backup lights, too? Or is that screen always on?

I've been looking for a quick and easy way of adding the backup camera, and messing with the headliner was not my idea of quick and easy (not to mention the $350 price tag).

Yes they are tied into the back up lights. I should mention the only time you get a true "picture " is in the rear view mirror - because when you back up looking at the screen picture is reversed - but better than nothing.

I'm doing research also but there are such things as reverse and nonreverse image cameras. If you want to look at your display facing forwards with the camera facing backwards you would get a reverse image camera. If like "best engines" you want the display and camera facing the same direction you would get a nonreverse camera. I like the idea and implementation though.

*best engines*. I really appreciate your input. I think I my follow a similar set up as you. I was debating where to put the screen so I like your placement. Do you think there would be any advantage to having it powered full time? Obviously I would have to buy a camera without LEDs.

You can but it will be annoying with screen lit up during nighttime driving . Grabbing power from that back up light bulb wire was easy

I'd like to know this also, that's a nice neat install of both the GPS and the camera monitor. Ideal.

The attached link is pretty self explanatory. I cut the bracket in half so it would in The XLT. I did have trouble with using double sided tape & ended up using two small screws to secure it. Camera and GPS are connected to 4X4 harness purple hot wire. Both unit are fastened to bracket with Velcro.

Ok, thanks Darrel. Big help, but where did you get that bracket from. Did it come with the camera/gps?
