Default New HID's?

Just picked up my new toy, a white '14 platinum! Can't help but notice the output of the HIDs isn't that great. Anyone know of any good aftermarket bulbs that are a bright white? I think my last HIDs were around 5k

OEM is roughly a 4300k color. CBI is 5000k. White does "look" better but lower color temps actually perform and illuminate objects better. D2S projector retrofits would be ideal but costly. Or change to a D1S setup from the stock D3S for better bulbs and output in the stock projectors.

I had a D2S retrofit done and I love it.

I make quite a few sled trips Friday afternoons and usually don't get up to the north woods of Wisconsin and the U.P. Till late at night. I too just traded my 11 for a 14 and I hated the stock headlights. Looking forward to the HID's. It's pitch black up there! Will help with spotting the deer!!!

I thought my 2014 fx4 had pretty nice lights. Can't see how they would be not bright enough. The safest and easiest would probably to get a 12" light bar. PLENTY light. You could also take your fog lights out and replace them with LED spotlights. Works like a charm
Another option is the HID kit for the foglights. About $300 and they just plug into the stock housing

I ran HID's in my foglights on my last truck and it threw incredible light. Ill have to do some research on the projectors but i was currently looking for a plug and play HID bulb to replace the stocks.

Why do people think that HIDs in a reflector bucket/bowl are acceptable? You guys continue to amaze me.

Halogens in reflectors
HIDs in projectors

LED pods when you're not around other motorists.

Being cheap with lighting is just a poor decision. Do it right with projectors or don't do it at all.

Agreed.

There is a guy running around here with a mid 2000s model Toyota Tacoma. He has hids installed in the factory housings. His truck is incredibly dangerous to meet on the road. He blinds me ever freakin morning on my way to work. Ridiculous.

The factory halogen buckets are not made for hid lighting. Those buckets just throw light everywhere and is crazy dangerous to meet coming right at you, especially on a two lane road at 5:30 in the morning.

Don't be that guy OP.

I WAS that guy in my old explorer, actually got pulled over for it. Now I have Factory HIDs but am looking to swap out the bulbs to something a little more white, prob 5000k. As for the fogs, I'm undecided on LED bulbs for the fogs. I struggle to see at night and not sure if they will throw enough light.
