Default New Ford 5l. Oil changes??

So my truck has an oil change monitor. Suppose to tell you when to change the oil. How many of you trust this monitor. Should I trust this monitor?

Thanks for any input
Steve

Mine gets changed every 5,000 miles. I've never seen the monitor below 48%.

Well, determine what your conditions are. The conditions are laid out in the manual. Extreme conditions- towing, dusty, excessive stop/go or driving short trips without bringing engine to normal operating temperature can all mean you should change sooner.

If you are using recommended oil, your truck warms up on every trip and you don't drive exclusively on dirt roads and don't tow all the time, I would just change it every year or when the oil life is between 10 and 15. My personal opinion based on how I interpret the manual written by guys who torture tested the hell out of those engines.

I use the OLM but also check the oil on a regular basis. I change mine every 5k miles.

Yup. Same here. Every 5k and never rely on any monitors!

I drive 90% of the time at 70mph on divided highways and have a 45 mile one way commute to work so I change mine at the dealer ever 7500 miles and I am normally at ~20% on the OLM.

I change mine between 5,000-6,000 miles. It seems that no matter what kind of driving I do, the OLM still only drops 10% every 1,000 miles.
