New brakes at 21,500!!!! WTF Ford???
Driving home yesterday I hear a grinding noise. I damn near lost my mind because I KNEW it couldn't be my breaks. I only have 21k on the truck! Sure enough the passenger side outer pad was gone! The outside pad had sheared off and it was down to the rivets. Ended up digging into the rotor a smidge. I replaced the front pads last night. Don't care about the rotor as I will be swapping them out for slotted, cross drilled rotors. Anyway, that's the rant. Here is the picture.

Damn. Now I'm worried about my truck.....but I've been looking at new pads/rotors for all 4 corners anyways as I've seen multiple threads on here about how light duty these are. Sucks to see they went away so fast though.

I haven't needed new brakes on my truck and I'm at 40,000. It could be that the caliper on that side locked up. How did the other side look?

All depends on how you drive man has nothing to do with Ford. I have seen them last 100k plus and only 10k.
Do you tow often? Have alot of weight in the truck? Bigger tires or heavier wheels? Lifted? Leveled? Offroad a lot? Ride your brakes? Factors and scenarios. But 21k is a bit ridiculous I agree, in most cases. |
I'm at 55000 and I'm sure I've another 20 left in mine

I agree the caliper must be hanging up some to cause premature ware. Or maybe your wife or girlfriend is riding the brake? LOL |
I have 54,000 on mine and there is still a lot left on the pad. Do you tow a lot? That seems crazy that the pads wore out that fast.

My rear brakes on my 2010 with 12,000 miles just wore out. I heard metal to metal and took the truck to mechanic. He told me Ford must be following Chevy in cheap brakes. I do not tow or ride the brake. Both sides were shot. It just doesn't feel right to have to replace brakes with that little mileage.

46,000 km on mine and they still aren't half wore. mabey it was just a defective break pad.
