Default New blower motor restitor started smoking after old one replaced

Hi everyone

2010 F150, month back the blower motor resistor went out. I only had settings 3-4 but no 1-2.

Easy fix, bought a new resistor and just tried replacing it.

Unfortunately when I started the car the resistor started smoking a little, like it was about to be burnt out too.

I should also mention that it did fix the problem, I did have one and two working, and then after a few seconds it would start the smoking thing.

Why is my truck blowing the resistors?

Probably the blower motor pulling to much amperage thus blowing the resistor

Damn. I imagine replacing the motor is a much bigger + more expensive job?

Bumping this, I need help. Lived with no lowest setting but I lost 1/2/3 now. Only 4 works.

I tried installing a new resistor back when I made this thread and it instantly smoked.

How hard is it to replace the blower motor on a 2010? I found this video of the previous gen, seems stupid easy. Is it about the same on the 09-14 gen?

Also when I replaced it I didn't have it fully installed, does it really need instant airflow not to blow? I read you can't run it without it being installed, is it really on the edge of burning out by having a second or two of no air going to it? That doesn't seem right. I understand it needs cooling but for it to burn out right away makes me think it wasn't the resistor.

I just want to make sure it isn't actually the resistor before ordering a motor.

Sorry, one more post, is this really the blower motor or just a fan part of it? Surely it can't be that easy to access... ???

Yes, that's the blower motor itself. The blades(squirrel cage) is attached to it. It's that easy to get it out.

Same thing happened to my 2013. New resistor started smoking. Take a close look at the pigtail harness that plugs into the resistor. Mine was corroded and was shorting out . Check that before replacing the motor. I can't guarantee that is your problem BUT much cheaper than a new blower motor.
Good luck, hope this helps!

I replaced the blower motor and blower motor resistor on mine. Everything works fine but it smells like it's burning plastic when you first start the truck and turn ac on 😡 Idk what else to do except live with it I guess.

i have a 2010 f-150 lariot with 5.4 l v-8, has 6speed fan on a/c. quit blowing on #6 speed but will work on 1-5. some times it won't work on any speed. I can shake wires to resistor and it will wok for a while and then quit again. replaced resistor twice and wiring harness, still couldn't get #6 to work and still quits on other speeds occasionally. I have reinstalled the original fomoco resistor back and 6 works but it still quits occasionally. Don't really won't to take it to dealer but may have to if no one knows answer. Only problem i have with it after 196,000 miles. Thank you
