Default New battery resets transmission "learning?"

Friday my 2013 F-150 is going in for oil change and tire rotation etc.

Time for a new battery too.

I was reading in the owner manual pamphlet that interupting the power during the battery replacement will "reset the learning curve on the automatic transmission."

Bought the truck used with 50,000+ miles on it. It seems to run and shift perfectly presently.

What should I expect to experience as a result of this "reset" and "relearning" the transmission is going to do?

These things somehow adapt to the driver's habits?

It basically comes out as a new truck, try not to drive at a constant speed for the first 500 miles or so. The Mustang guys pull the fuse to reset their auto's to get rid of the adaptive shifting so I would not be to worried about it.

Would you know what fuse it is on our trucks? Sounds like a worthwhile thing to maintain better throttle response with out having to do a KAM reset.
I wonder if there's a downside to this?

Thanks guys.

There's another thread here someplace about the battery being special in some way on these because the charging circuit saves gas by not constantly keeping the battery topped off?

Proprietary battery from Ford, or will most shops know about this?

Its not the battery, its the charging system and its programming.

Some shops install a charger on trucks before they unhook the battery. That allows the system to keep all the settings during the battery change.

The battery is said to not be a typical lead acid battery. I haven't gotten a clear answer on that either.

While I was out and about I dropped by the dealer where I bought the truck used and asked the service writer about it. He grabbed a nearby technician who said a 2013 F-150 didn't have the smart charging system. Just the regular same ol' same ol' as always. Regular battery too.

So the transmission is smart but not the charging system.

Since I bought the truck used I thought I'd see if the battery was even original.

It looks original AND the green "eye" indicator is still green.

I'm gonna just wait until at least the Fall season and see if it's still green then.

While I was wandering around the dealer they had some new white fleet type (like I always seem to gravitate towards) F-150's tucked in the corner sort of hidden behind all the 4X4's and Superduty models out front.
Turns out a pretty direct replacement model for mine but in 2017 aluma-skin and 3.5 mill is $22-23k with the rebate etc.

Oh well. Mine runs perfect. The prices haven't seem to gone up much on the fleet stuff since when mine was built in 2013. Used w 50K miles it was $17,000 and change out the door.

I think the place I have it serviced was just probably pushing batteries.

That tech is an idiot not a tech, the smart charging system has been in place on the F150 since 2011.

Don't walk away from that dealer, RUN LIKE HELL!!!

As for the trans relearning, it's not just the trans, it's the entire powertrain control system, just drive it like you normally would, it will learn your habits and seat right in.
