Default First tow with the new truck...5.0L

Kind of a late post, but pulled the TT with my new FX2 5.0 bout 2 weeks ago for the first time. Previous ride, 02 Lariat Screw 5.4L. Trailer 2011 Eclipse Evolution 17FBS w/slideout 4100lbs dry.

Very smooth ride and trailer sway/trailer brake control worked great. Trailer package checklist onboard truck is very handy. I was weary of 5.0L low end torque compared to the 5.4L, although she doesn't have as much torque from a dead stop as my old 5.4L, she makes up for it when you rev her. My passing power and hill climbing compared to my 4 speed 5.4 is NIGHT and DAY. I always struggled to pass 18wheelers on the freeway at 55mph with my 5.4 pulling my trailer with loaded family/gear, but it seems like the 5.0 does it effortlessly.

I am in no way knocking the 5.4 guys. I absolutely loved my 02 Lariat, she had 157k miles, did not leak a speck of oil and I was on the original transmission. She towed anything I could ever ask of her and more. I just wanted to share my experience pulling with my new baby.

I have a 2013 XLT 5.0, 3.55 gears and pull a Kodiak 214 hybrid. It pulls effortlessly, zero sway and seems almost like the trailer weighs 1/2 as much.
I am impressed with it's hill pulling ability as it downshifts to 4th gear and has great power around 3000-4000 rpms.

The truck and trailer are a nice match.

I towed a utility trailer from work with my 2012 XLT. It had my Polaris and my buddy's Yamaha side by side on it. Total weight was just under 4,500 lbs. I had the 5.0 with 3:55 and the towing package. (The same as I have on my 2013 Lariat.) I was impressed with the tow as well. That little V8 is pretty potent and chugged along with no issues. I was impressed.

I'm pretty impressed with mine too, for what it is. If I towed often I wouldn't have gotten the smaller V8 with taller gears but I only tow my cargo trailer during the summer on short ATV trips once in awhile. My only complaint is that the trans calibration makes it bog a little on hills. A tune should solve that.

I've towed with 2V 5.4's, V10's, 7.3 PS, 318 88 Dodge, 01 318 Dodge, 78 Ford with built 400M, etc. I love the 5.0 in comparison to all of them except the V10 and diesel (obviously). The 5.0 along with the 6 speed and 3.73 gear is a great combination. I've towed a utility trailer with a Kawasaki Teryx 4 seater, a 90 Mustang on a car hauler, a 2000 TJ Wrangler on a car hauler, and the heaviest being the wifes old 08 Expedition on a steel deck car hauler (estimated 7K total). The truck never worked as hard as I expected. Great handling, braking and acceleration. My Dad has an 03 f150 SC 4X4 with the 5.4 and 3.55's. It has towed a camper it's entire life. Most of it being a 26ft Jayco 5th wheel weighing 6900 lbs dry. Latest trailer (towed once to a lot in Florida) weighs 7500 lbs dry. Truck has 90K and wears 6 ply BFG AT's and has never had a mechanical problem besides the COP failures. It has upgraded brakes and otherwise stock.
