Hey guys, I am looking at a New 2010 Lariat Screw with the 6.5 box. This will be for work and play. I have heard all the buzz about the possible new engines to come and would love some feedback about waiting and getting a "Coyote" or 3.5TT or taking the plunge on the old 5.4.

Please don't take offense but I have been a GM truck guy for years and currently own a 2007 LTZ. I have personally never liked the 5.4 (don't get mad) it has always seemed noisy and way underpowered.

I love everything about the new F150 except the motor, but maybe with a tune and misc. go fast goodies it could be a good put down some decent numbers.

So should I wait for the 2011's or bite the bullet and purchase the old venerable 5.4 Triton?

Thanks for some ideas.

I am in the same boat.. GM guy for a long time.. I looked at SCREWs (Lariats) today and I really like them.. for me its the 5.4 and the SLOW shifting trans thats causing me not to buy today.. My alternative is a 2010 LTZ w/6.2L (but not sure if I want the short bed.. I really want a 6.5')

Why are you moving away from the GM?

Just had my 5.3 rebuilt under warranty (still not fixed) with only 15,000 miles on it, kind of left a bad taste in my mouth, plus I service all my dealerships here and its time to switch brands to keep everyone happy

I cant get over how much faster my little 5.3 chevy feels compared to the 5.4. It feels like its missing 2 cylinders. Don't get me wrong its a great truck, but come on man my Dodge caravan is faster

Yeah I know i really want a 6.5 box with that sweet crew cab ford offers. I love my chevys and their motors (6.2), but my tools dont fit in my crew cab and I would love the 6.5 box. I hope the new 3.5 TT Eco boost is more than its cracked up to be.

hook an 8000lb trailer to the back of your chevy's... and compare the power then! I too was a 20 year BowTie owner. Ford's 5.4 has torque, and the hp where you need it...at a lower rpm.

yea the 5.4 has been used in three gen's of f150s for a reason. its good motor and with 3.73 rearend gears you shouldnt need much more speed. but it has all the power you should ever need in a half ton

Yes you guys are right about the towing, pulled a 3,000 lb trailer today to help a friend move. I could really tell the motor had to work. Unfortunately I don't pull a trailer all that often. I am not trying to be disrespectfull, but there are alot of drivability differences between the 5.3 and 5.4, some good and some bad.

I just don't want to get out of a bad truck and into another bad truck with new 6 spd tranny issues and a 5.4 that is on its way out and may not fit my driving style.

Never owned an american automobile besides a Dodge Viper before I bought my 2010 F150 FX4. I love it and wouldn't consider anything else. Sure other trucks have more power but only Ford has a complete package. Go with the 5.4 its a tried and true engine all the kinks have been worked out for quite some time. You can't say that for the new engines to come.

Just my .2 cents

I would not bet on your statement, 100%. Reason being, my 09 XLT Screw 5.4l, 6.5 bed 4x4 smokes my buddies 5.3l 07 LTZ (we are talking Avalanche, correct?) every day of the week, as we leave the plant from work. It pisses him off to no end, but hey, that's why I like working with him.

I have the 5.4 in my 2010 and the difference between it and the 5.4 in my 2007 is HUGE, likely due to the tranny.

THAT SAID...

Your post answered your own question. If you've never liked the 5.4 but love everything else about the truck then you're better off waiting. Just my $.02.
