Default Need some advice before I buyout my truck, another 5.0 knock??

Hey everyone, ok I leased my 2014 FX4 fully loaded crew cab, 5.0. It now has 29,000 miles. I love the truck and has had no problems. Now I leased it three years ago with the intention to buy it (I understand not the best move financially and wouldn't do it again), anyhow on the forum I came across the whole 5.0 tapping/knocking issue that appears to be a problem with the 5.0. I said to myself s**t, I think I've noticed that on mine. So I listened to a bunch of videos and went out to see. It does appear to have a slight knock when warm/after a short ride, not so much on cold start up. So heres my problem. I am about to finalize the loan and purchase the truck but now I am not sure if I will. The truck is due back Feb 3rd.

I don't have a dealer I trust locally, I do have a private mechanic that I am considering having him take a look and see what he thinks. If he feels its good then Ill move along and consider an extended warranty.

If he feels its a problem then i guess I can start the process of finding a service dept that doesn't give me the "its normal" dismissal

Thing is again I'm on borrowed time but Im gun shy to buy a vehicle that has a problem and hope they cover it. Thats if theres a problem I may be completely overreacting.

I apologize about another thread regarding this topic, any advice greatly appreciated.

All engines make noise, they have moving parts. This tick/knock thing is out of hand. See what your mechanic thinks, but it's probably not a problem.

thanks Spiky, I'm thinking the internet has gotten me spooked. Like we all know if you google issues about any vehicle we wouldn't buy anything

Funny, I have a 2014 FX4 5.0 with just under 30k miles also. No knocking in mine, that I can tell, but I read through that thread and it seemed like the majority of the problems were with the 2011 & 2012 5.0 engines if I'm not mistaken. It would be pretty tough to get rid of your year/model truck just because you're afraid of what 'might' happen. It is one of the most liked ones out there so I'm sure there will be plenty of people willing to take it off your hands.

If you buy it and under 3/36, buy extended ESP.

The original concern was with some 2011-2012 oblong cylinders creating a piston slap noise. By 2013 that issue had been rectified. With the mileage you have on it, it's an easy decision.

Buy it!

I was in your same spot with my 2011 5.0L and I bought mine. I don't regret it for a minute. Yes it costed a bit more in the end, but we do what we have to right. If your truck has been strong to this point, go for it. Mine now has 123,000 miles and my wife keeps pushing me to trade it in for a new one. I'm not even considering it at this point.

I've had numerous 5.0s with 200k, 215k, 255k, and 375k miles. They all knocked and they did not once let me down. Unless Ford is fixing it, I'd leave it.

thanks for all the replies. I understand that you can't control what may or may not happen. Just a bit concerned because as far as I can tell my motor is very similar to what has been posted. I am not a mechanic and I have an appointment tuesday to have it looked at. I really love the truck and it has been great, maybe these threads have just spooked me and I hope my motor is fine. I looked into the ESP from flood ford and they are WAY better priced then what ford quote me, so that also offers some piece of mind. I guess where I am at is deciding if I want to deal with a potential motor problem (because my knock MAY be sign of whats to come or maybe completely fine)would I buy it? or move on? Thanks again everyone sorry for venting!
