Need help with levelling kit install ...
Hey guys just joined the site and this is my first post or what ever and this is the reason why I joined this site. I just got a rough country 2.5 inch levelling kit for my 2010 ford f150 super crew cab lariat 4x4 and I'm having some trouble getting the bolt off my upper control arm, any ideas how to take off them nylon lock nuts with out just reafing them off ... Unless that's just how you have to do it would really appreciate it.
You have to keep pressure on the upper ball joint to get the nut off otherwise it just spins. When I used to do level kits all the time I had the truck on a lift obviously and used a pry bar to keep pressure by lifting up on the control arm(under control arm and wedge pry bar using coil spring) while my helper took the nut off and supported the knuckle from just falling. To reinstall nut you need to go over the control arm using the coil spring and pry down putting pressure on the ball joint to tighten it back up otherwise it will spin too. Sometimes I got lucky without having to do this during removal and install, there's been some trucks that fought the whole way and some were a breeze. I've done different level lifts too, some required strut disassembly for new bushings and a hockey puck spacer and longer bolts and I've done newer styles where you use the existing strut studs with an adaptor stud plate, turn the strut 180 degrees and reinstall. Hope this helps, I haven't done level kits in over 3 years since I don't work for a dealer anymore but good luck!!
Yeah I no that, its like the actual nut it's got like this red plastic **** in the bottom end of the nut and once the nuts gets to the end of the bolt it starts to gets tight and doesn't come off idk it's f@&$ed .. I was thinking put some heat to it and melt it maybe ..? And it's a nylon lock nut .. And is the red stuff the nylon ..?
By the way it's sounding yes the red plastic is probably the nylon coming apart. Try running the nut back up, see what's in the threads on the ball joint and try again. You may have some of the nylon getting in between the threads and causing it to turn hard and not come off. Can you upload a few photos?
