I may haul small trailors for lawn mower or something like that but really I just love trucks. when I search on the forum seems like all I find is what gas mileage people are getting. So for somebody who just wants his truck back which engine would you recommend?(I will test drive both first)
Thanks
OP, just drive the 5.0... then drive the Eco. Report back.

When it comes to sound, the only one I care about is the sound of the gas pump filing the tank and the sound of the credit card as its swiped through the reader...

I have been on this board long enough to recognize some of the regular eco guys, 5.0 guys and even a few that always tout the 6.2. All have differing opinions and reasons for their preferences. At the end of the day, they are all great motors and outshine the competition. I don't think you can really go wrong, you just have to decide which you prefer. The 8's do sound so good. The eco low end torque is awesome. I wish they made an eco that sounded like the 5.0 but I wouldn't trade the torque and thrust for the sound. Drive em and pick your favorite.

I had the 5.4 in my 07 XLT SCAB, loved it. Went with the 5.0 on my 12 STX SCAB, love that just as much. I worked at a Ford dealer, so I had to opportunity to drive the Eco as much as I wanted, it is a great engine, fun to drive, but for me I was sold on the 5.0. I live in an area with lakes everywhere, so when I pull the boat its no more than 5-10 miles and the 5.0 is more than capable of doing that. Like everyone said, test them both out and see which one you lean towards more.

My 2 cents. Go with the V8 5.0
I have heard from a few people the gas savings between the 5.0 and ecoboost is so small its not worth it.
Personally I also feel your asking for a big bill to replace the turbos down the road.
I would rather have the power of the 8 (which is very very peppy) .

That is a special truck you have there.

Drive them both, see which you like better! I went with the 5.0 because it was cheaper, and from my research the mpg is nearly identical. At current fuel prices I'd have to keep it 90k just to break even. I only tow my motorcycles and the 5.0 was more than capable of that task.

I have the 5.0. Love it. But, as others have said, you can't go wrong with either engine. Now the transmission, that's another story.....
