Navigation Memory Card

My phone is more convenient, but unless you save offline maps it's useless without cell data coverage. For longer trips especially, I like the bigger screen and integration of the on board nav, but I wouldn't have paid the premium for it in a new car.

I use the OEM Nav on long trips so the kids can see just how far we have to go. This ususally avoids all the "are we there yet?" banter. I could probably use my phone if they have coverage, however there's two things I don't like about this. 1) A lot of cities have "hands free" laws and you can get ticketed if caught holding your phone while driving. and 2) This means I need to install a phone mount somewhere in the vhicle that I can "see" but not touch." Those same laws usually don't apply to a lockpicked OEM Nav unit because those devices are commonplace in cars now. I think the assumption when you are holding your phone is that you're texting. I also data log and have other things going on up front, so I'd rather not mount another device.
When I looked up my 2012, there is an actual license number which is matched to your head unit that needs to be entered for the discs to install. I guess they completely locked down the unit and future updates from copied discs. Seems like ebay is a no-go for the 2011-2012. I don't see anything on there, as you would have to use a keygen or some hacked license number. I'm not really into breaking the law THAT MUCH.

I guess I always save maps to new areas when I'm travelling, and I keep a magnet mount on my air vent that keeps my phone right next to my center dash, so for me my phone is always more convenient to use and just as easy to view.

Subsequent responses, based on their comeback:
Well, you didn't specify where!
If you already knew, why'd you ask?
If nothing else, you teach them to be more clever about how they harass you.

Big screen can show more streets at once. I like to turn it on so I can see the streets around me in certain driving situations. Because of the slow speed of Sync2, I use my phone most of the time for inputting an actual address to navigate to.

My NAV screen also shows which lane to be in on the exit ramp for multiple exits to different highways.
It also shows me where the closest gas stations are if I'm pushing the endurance limits. It'll also show me the gas prices so I may choose where to go.
I can get more information on my 8 inch screen on the dash than a 2 inch screen on my phone.
I can make hands free phone calls while using navigation and can also hear text messages while navigating.
Just a few examples of why I like my navigation over my Samsung

You have a Samsung smartphone with a 2" screen? Also, sounds like you have a different nav system than me, Sync3?

yes, my Samsung's screen is 2" wide.
I have a '13 King Ranch, with My Touch Sync, factory NAV..
I believe that its the original Sync, with Sync 2 beginning on the 2015's and Sync 3 beginning on the 2018's.

to get the traffic and stuff it's working off your Sirius if you have that included in your Sirius package, for the rest of us that dont pay Sirius for that, our navigation is dumb navigation
