Default Naming trailers

So it's possible to name trailers so the settings are saved (I would assume only if you have the factory type brake control). If you have multiple trailers, this is a nice feature.

BUT.... It still doesn't save that you want the tow/haul on.
It senses that you connected a trailer.

Why can't it turn on the tow/haul automatically?!

Tow/haul is suppose to be on when towing and the truck knows that a trailer is connected. Hmm!

Am I missing something?

Yeah, the tow/haul button. Push it.

If I had a dodge I'd fold my mirrors out and call the trailer "Ghost"

Default Tow haul

I agree the option would be nice. However, I don't always use it when towing my 36 ft trailer.

I noticed a big mileage difference from exclusively using tow haul, and monitoring and adjusting between tow haul, normal, and manually shifting gears.

You can use T/H mode without a trailer hooked up. If you want higher rpm shift points you can engage T/H for normal driving.

Also, you may not want T/H when pulling a trailer. If you're on the flatlands with a lighter weight trailer and T/H is on, you may not get into 6th gear due to the higher rpm required. If you'd like to run in 6th on the flats, turn T/H off.

So....I'm glad it's not automatic!

Can you only name trailers if the trailer has electric brakes? I towed my friends boat and tried to setup the trailer info, but my truck said "trailer disconnected". All the trailer lights worked, but the boat trailer has surge brakes.

I have the max tow package, and it towed the 27' boat just fine, but I wanted to enable the trailer info...

Correct, it only knows it's hooked to a trailer if the trailer has electric brakes. Otherwise, you could just plug in one of those tailgate strip lights with turn signals and it would think you were hooked to a trailer.

Also when plugged into a trailer with electric brakes, the truck automatically disables the reverse sensor too. Put your truck in reverse with a trailer and notice no frantic beeping. Glad it does figure that one out!!

Is there a way to get it to recognize connected trailers if you don't have the factory brake controller? I have an aftermarket controller, and even when hooked up to a trailer with electric brakes, it doesn't recognize there is a trailer connected.

I can name any trailer, it doesn't have to have brakes. I named my utility trailer that doesn't have beaks and uses a 4 flat pigtail.

Edit my truck is a 15 sorry wrong forum.

I believe the only way is to take it to Ford (or any shop that has IDS) to have the truck "flashed" in order to recognize it.
But since you installed an aftermarket Brake controller (versus an OEM), it probably isn't worth that cost to have them flash it and still not recognize it since you didn't put the OEM one on.
