Some basic math.

Ford sold 763,000 F-series trucks in 2013.

If they have a 1% failure rate on their engines, that means 7,630 engine failures for 2013 models.

If the have a 1/10 of 1% failure rate, that means that 763 owners will be screwed.

It would suck to be one of them.

But, in 2009 (latest figures), there were 10.8 million auto accidents.

http://www.census.gov/compendia/stat...es/12s1103.pdf

There were about 250 million vehicles registered in 2009.

http://www.statista.com/statistics/1...es-since-1990/

So you have about a 4% chance (1 in 25) of being in an accident in one year, and a lot less chance of blowing an engine, depending on Ford's failure rate.

But, if it was 4%, Ford dealer bays would be filled with engine replacements.

There, now, don't you feel better?

you didn't read my previous post about GM did you?

I am under no false presumption that GM or anyone else for that matter are making bullet proof trucks these days.
As me and my son were heading into town the other day we pulled up along side a Tundra. The road was a little bumpy and you could see the freaking bed shaking all over wobbling from side to side.
What a piece of crap that looked like. It did make me appreciate my Ford that much more though

I'm not "happy" that Ford owned up and fixed it, because that's what they should have done.
The same thing applies in a drive thru. I'm not happy when the person hands me my food, because that's what they should be doing.

I expected them to honor the warranty and they did.

I think it's something to do with the torque convertor. It also does it in ANY gear (using select shift), and reverse.

I'm not to worried about it. Please keep us in the loop as to what they find.
I have a buddy that has a 2013 ecoboost and had the same noise. He took it into a ford dealer and they said there is a "spacer/boot" on th front of the driveshaft that goes bad and cause a noise similar to what you guys have described.

I have had a noise for 6 months or so. Last towing trip, it was noticably louder. After a cold start, loaded acceleration. Brought it to dealer, still under warranty- suggested passenger side, head or manifold area. Turned put there was an exhaust leak, hole in the manifold, lower side. They will replace under warranty when parts arrive.

I am not 100% convinced that is the prob, but I have 30 days left in my 5 yr warranty to get this replaced and re check the noise.

Looking at the bolts, and part, it looks cast and rusted on nicely. Not going to be a fun job.

Thank you for reaching out about this, Platinum_Sean. I'm glad to hear that the parts are on their way and that the dealer is taking care of the repair.

Please be sure to send along a status update after the repair is made; I'll be happy to document any feedback you have to give.

Have a great day!

Brittany

My truck had it's exhaust manifold replaced Friday . My knocking/ticking sound is now fixed and almost unnoticeable.

Odd though, the driver's side has a heat shield, the new passenger side one, does not. I think it should.
