4.6 3v 3.55LS here too. I drive for mpg, and am pretty easy on the skinny pedal. overall MPG calculator for 12000 miles still says 20.6mpg, and when I hand calculate it at the pump, I get 19mpg

I like how it turn 1250 rpms at 40 mph... I get the best gas mileage at about 45-50 mph. gas mileage goes way down at 70mph on the freeway, when she runs at 2K rpm

Tranny is better when warm, for sure... same as the brakes. The first brake every day when it's cold, I nearly go through the windshield. lol

It's usually when someone has a problem that he/she becomes more vocal about it. When all is good, almost no one says anything.

I have no problem with mine either. Occasionally that tranny has done an odd shift. When I say occasionally maybe happened 4-5 times in the 18k miles I have on my truck. Not something I would give a second thought or even think about taking to a dealer.

I would have to agree but would adjust your percentages a little.
1. 30%
2. 40%
3. 30%

The great majority only join a forum because they have a problem or like the attention and like to complain.

I have had a few odd shifts as well in 6800 miles but nothing that I am concerned about. Overall I love this truck.

So far so good with this new transmission It's like nothing I have ever driven before hopefully it will stay that way,I test drove several trucks before I purchased this one there was an FX4 that did the hard down shift around 40 or so and a red lariat that was doing a bucking when I was going to stop at very low speed, hhhmmmm some of the haurrraaaa stories I hear on this website about this trans, I put up with less on my last truck now it's someone else problem.

IMO this is normal. If you look at the difference between the old 4 speeds and the 6 speed, the big difference is 1st gear. Basically, 2nd gear in the 6 speed is like 1st gear in the 4 spd, and the 4spd would probably be in 2nd by 20mph, which is about like 3rd in the 6 spd.

I have a little over 11,000 miles on my 2010 Screw 4.6L 3V 4X4 and have had smooth shifts and no hard down shifts. But I did notice a "clunk" yesterday when I was creeping in traffic on the highway and all components were up to temperature. I tried to recreate it but couldn't.
I have also noticed a few times when shifting in to reverse (backing into the driveway) it will feel like it is slipping a little and then it catches. But this has only happened a couple of times and the last time was a few thousand miles ago.
One other driveline minor concern I have is with 4x4 engagement. With winter coming I have engaged and disengaged the 4x4 a few times going about 30 mph on a straight road and have felt the transfer case engage with a slight surge. Anyone else notice this? It doesn't make any more noise when engaged so I am not worried.
The explorer I sold when I got this truck was a 2000 5 speed with 4x4 and didn't notice the 4x4 engage like that. Of course this truck is the first automatic transmission I have ever owned or driven for a extended amount of time so my concerns with a few minor sounds may be normal to most people.
