Default My new chrome 6 bar grille

Notice something different about this OEM grille? It has a painted surround and a chrome 6 bar center.

New grille from Wayne Akers Ford in Lake Worth, Fl approx $250 and painted it myself. Probably material cost of $75.

Very nice look. I am not a fan of chrome. But your chome tipped mirrors, chrome bumper with the chrome grille insert have a very nice look.

Good job......

Was the surround chromed or PTM? Please explain your painting process, especially if it was chromed.

Chrome. I couldn't buy an OEM grille with PTM surround and chrome bars.
I used a Dupont Nason etch primer, followed by a Nason epoxy sealer. Paint was Nason base /clear.

This is the plan for my grill as well, in Tuxedo Black. You bought the grill seperate? I already have the chrome surround/chrome 6 bar inner that came stock on the truck (XLT chrome pkg/XTR). I was looking at maybe buying the outer surround already PTM for a Tuxedo Black FX4, rather than having to paint my own. I was concerned about the durability of the finish if I paint over the chrome but sounds like you might have the problem solved.

When you bought the grill what did you get? Outer surround and 6 bar inner? Were they one piece, or did they come as 2 pcs but had to be purchased together? Thanks for the info.

The outer surround and inner 6 bars are all one piece. For that reason I doubt that you can get any six bar section by itself.

OK I didn't know you could get them like that. The dealer's parts dept searched but couldn't find one like that.
