Default My Lease is Up...Ditch or Keep 2011 FX4 Screw Ecoboost

I was afraid of the Ecoboost so I leased my 2011 (and had big trade equity). It's now due...and I'm torn. I love the truck and got one that gets great gas mileage and has been rock solid, but now with the timing issues I'm reading about I'm torn on whether to keep or ditch it. Unfortunately, my truck is worth considerably more than I owe for buyout, so if I leave it, I lose a good bit. It has 54,000 miles now and ESP warranty for another 3 years.

I'm 90% sure I'm going to buy out my lease....opinions? Anyone care to talk me out of buying it Thanks.

if it's been a good truck, and has 3 years left on the warrenty i would probably keep it. i thought about trading my 11 in on a 15. but after thinking about it i just want to pay it off, and enjoy my trouble free truck for a while.

You know you can buy it, trade it in on a new one and you may be able to keep or cash out the ESP. You can shop other dealers too, in order to get the best price/trade.
It doesn't have to be a Ford to boot. If you do it before the lease is up and going into another lease. Your looking at no out of pocket money, if the trade in value of the 2011 is enough over the buyout to cover the tax's and title.
My son did this with his Explorer to a Chevy. He couldn't get a deal on another explorer.
Personally I'd buy it and run it till it's ready for the scrap yard. I've done "all the above" over the decades, but the buy new and run them "till death do us part" is the cheapest.

Thanks guys. I only leased since I was unsure how I'd like the Ecoboost. I was 100% certain of purchase till I started seeing the timing chain issues....then doubt started sinking in...LOL. Oh well, got alot of warranty left so I suppose I'll write a check and keep on trucking (till it starts ticking anyways)

You have the ESP so that's good. I had $3500 in engine repairs at 75,000 miles due to the timing chain problems. I've also had a host of other issues that have come in. If you didn't already have the ESP I would say to trade it in.

I know you made up your mind but, ill be in same boat your in soon. I was told you wouldn't lose that money. My truck will also be worth alot more than buyout. You can use that towards you next vehicle purchase or lease, or even in some cases walk away with money in your pocket, depends on how you do it. My buyout is 24,000 on my 2013 fx4, if trade in value is 30,000 you wont lose that 6,000, that can be used to your advantage. I didnt know about this till recently, search internet. You'll be surprised. This wasnt always the case, but vehicles are holding there value better right now for some reason. Most people dont know about this, I didnt myself until recently.
Since you decided to buy it, you still might make out. Im sure your buy it is way under what its worth. So if you do change your mind in future, you probably would still get more on trade or sell than what your buyout was. So you would still make out.
Only because I want the new 2015 f150 id use that positive equity on truck that you have to knock off a couple thousand of new truck price and cash out remainder of esp and use that cash for mods, lol.
I just figured id let you know that you wouldn't lose that money if you decided to give truck back.

Get a new one. No point of leasing if you're just gonna buy at the end. Buy out price?
