My first new F150, AAAUUHHHGG!
I am buying a new 2013 F150. I am retiring and typical use will be to tow the 4300lb dry/6000 loaded TT to the ocean. We will stay a few weeks at a time so it will then be used as putt around transportation and towing a 5000 lb boat on flat ground to and from the launch. (up to 10 miles max) depending on launch. There may be the occasional tow of different boats up to about 8000 pounds on rare occasions but still on flat ground.
The truck I am looking to order is an XLT crew cab, 5.0 v8, 6.5 box and 3.73 differential. 302a equipment group, XLT convenience pkg.
I think the payload is 2200 before I added the packages. Anybody know what it actually ends up being? The tow rating is 9100? I think this set up would be fine.
I am not a fan of the 3.5 turbo boost only because I know very little about it. But I keep reading from people who love them. I live on the west side of Washington state and don't expect any mountain towing but do have a number of small hills to pull. Less than a couple miles. The set up I am looking at has plenty of cushion for towing but I could get even more cushion (safety) with the turbo 3.5 and max tow.
Is this overkill? Am I over thinking this? I am trying to avoid buyers remorse thinking I could of had kimberly instead of bertha.

I love my ecoboost with max tow, and to be honest I'm glad I have the peace of mind to know I can pull whatever I want as long as its under 11,300lbs (which is a pretty big number) I Doubt you'll ever regret having too much payload capacity, especially if you couple it with an ecoboost engine that has tons of low end torque and get better gas milage when you aren't towing.

internet bs aside, ecoboost is a fantastic engine. My next truck will likely be a max tow eb as well. Either one would be fine to pull your 6k trailer pretty easy.

I know there's a lot of negative threads about the boost on this forum. But lets be real. If something goes wrong you complain about it. If something is right you are out enjoying it and not reading the forums about how bad somebody else's luck is. I love my 3.5 turbo. I might go through some tires cuz I hit it sometimes but I love the fact I have passing power and low cruising rpm when I'm loaded down. I don't tow but I haul and my last truck-2009 xlt 4.6 was a liability with a heavy load when I needed to jump on it. The ecoboost? I ask and I receive.
For only 1k more you get a motor designed to do what you are asking it to do. Not slamming the 5.0 that is a great motor too. But this is my 4th f150 and by far my favorite. I've had the 4.6 2v 4.6 3v 5.4 and now the boost.

I have a 11 screw fx4 with the 5.0 and 373 and I have pulled a 20ft enclosed with a friends race car, 8200# and my truck did remarkably well, it didn't miss a beat on hills. I personally did not get the Eco because 11 was the first yr for it in the f150, yes I know the 5.0 was new in 11 also but I was just more comfortable buying it. With that said I would not hesitate on buying a Eco now. They are both great motors and it comes down to a personal preference! I hope this helps a little!

Eliminate the guess work and get the XLT with the 6.2L. This will take all the guess work out of towing and do i have enough engine. Due to the fact that the Eco issues revolve around mositure/condensation, ask yourself if your climate is always rainy/humid and full of moisture, until Ford offers a permanent fix i would go the 5.0 route over the Eco.

If moisture is the main issue that about settles it. This is Seattle. When its not raining, it is drizzling. Or it feels that way. It usually stops Raining around the 4th of July and starts again right after Laborday in mid September. We get a few other days when the sun comes out and people panic but it soon passes.
Using the truck on the coast means even more moisture. Except it rains sideways. We go 12 months a year due to monthly clam digs. And we drive on the beach. Camping in the rain is the norm.
Time to order the truck? When you are not 100% certain it is difficult.

if you get the 5.0 you would be defeating the purpose of the engine if you dont get the 3.73 rear. This will give u the tow power u need and great low end for city driving. 3.73,3.92,4.10 are towing gears anything smaller is highway gears. this is what makes the 3.73 preferred choice, it gives u the best of both worlds towing/highway
