My EcoBoost Torture Test

Well, depends on how you look at it I guess. The 5.4 felt quicker because of turbo lag with the Ecoboost. Ecoboost is a heck of an engine, but so was the 5.4. Their close, but I felt like my 5.4 had a lil bit better in 1st gear. The Ecoboost felt very sluggish through first, while the 5.4 would yank the trailer. Then hit 2nd and on and the tables turned.

Nice report.
The Ecoboost w/3.73s does have that slight touch of lag, but when towing a trailer that only seems like maybe 1 second. The low end, low rpm torque and pull of the Ecoboost blows the door off any naturally aspirated V8 I've ever been in.
My big thing is when cruising on interstate with rolling hills and mountain passes, the Ecoboost will only downshift once on steep passes. No downshifting on the rolling hills. I run 5th mainly at 65-70 MPH towing 6-7k. 4th on passes.
I had an 04 GMC 5.3 w/3.73s and that thing sucked ***** towing. 3rd gear on flat and second on the slightest hill. You had the rev the ***** out of it towing. Like 4-5k to get up any incline or in the wind. You were on the floor all the time.
I prompty sold it. Then I had an 01 Cummins 6 speed and 03 Cummins auto.
I am happy towing with my Ecoboost. While you can't just pull a 7k trailer up a pass in OD, I can live with 4th or 5th. Then again I had a bunch of mods on both my Cummins and ran 30-35 psi of boost. As long as you are 2500-3000 RPM the Ecoboost eats up the hills. A lot better and faster then 4-5k on the gas V8s. I don't think I've ever had to put my Ecoboost to the floor towing a 6-7k trailer in the mountains around here. Same goes for my Cummins trucks.

On the interstate I spent 90% of the time in 4th gear in between the 2100-3000 mile range. I wanted to shift into 5th just to see how it pulled, but never did. Solid tower say the least. My old 5.4 couldn't make up its mind, it would go from gear to gear so quick depending on the slightest grade. It cruised at lower RPMs, but jumped and spiked more with any change in elevation.

This isn't my first rodeo, so I knew what to expect. It was either an Ecoboost or an F250 Diesel for me. I took a chance on the Eco and she sure hasn't let me down. It feels good knowing I can get good gas mileage, but also have power if I need it.

Great details of your trip, I wish someone would post something like that with the 5.0, I have 2012 Screw XTR, 5.0, 3:55 diff lock, 145"wb, we also have 5.4 FX4 and I like punch out of the gate it has , my5.0 with the 6speed seems slow, I added K&N filter kit and it solved my throttle lag, it made a big difference.
just giving my 2 cents worth hahahahah
Merry Christmas Everyone!!

As for the haters. I wouldn't listen to them. I have never understood the point of people feeling compelled to complain. If something upsets you, walk away and go find something that makes you happy. Life's too short.
