Default My DIY $40 "On" dash ipad mount

Just sharing my DYI "ON" dash ipad mount for those who need to remove their ipad often but still want it on the dash when in the truck. I use my ipad for many things and needed an easy removal option. I had a spare ipad cover made of pretty thick leather, so converted it to this. I reduced the length of the cover to fit snuggly in shelf slot over the radio. I used the piece I cut off to double up the portion that holds it in place with velcro on the bottom. I removed the rubber base piece and installed the velcro and it came out flush so fit nicely. I can remove the pad cover and it still looks good with the black velcro. It is also very stable (mostly due to the cover being heavier than some)

Basically $30 for the cover and $10 for the velcro.

I'm measurement-impared. Is that iPad, or the Mini? I'd love to get a mini and find a way to mount it to the dash and use it for music and nav.

Ipad 3...that's pretty much what I use it for in the truck...as well as email, and the forum of course in traffic.

For an ipad install that requires no permanent modifications I would say its beauty over function haha although I've never understood why people need a full tablet in the dash..

Why not? It's the concept of having it as a head-unit that makes it awesome. Factory look, endless function and not to mention the cool factor of both of those two things combined. Having it on top of the dash, although still very functional if not more functional, is not as unique as having it setup like a factory nav screen.
