"MY" 5.4 Tick.
First off, I have never started a thread on here. Been a lurking member for quite a while. Love the info that this site offers.
2009 Super Crew FX4 5.4 w/ 67500 miles
-Stock other than muffler
Anyways, my truck has had this ridiculous tick. I hear it while driving alongside walls, fences, and especially in drive-thru's. It is prevalent at between 900 and 1200 rpm's cold, warm, or hot doesn't matter. I researched and read 100's of posts. I was about to take the truck to the shop and I said to my self, "Go look one more time". I crawled underneath and looked over everything (exhaust related). Still came up with nothing. As I was wiggling out I noticed some black soot along the top side of the clamp on the Y-pipe.
I then disconnected it and cleaned up the two surfaces and reconnected the two and VOILA! Tick no more = happy truck owner.
Now to tackle replacing my flattened right rear leaf springs...

suggest you do a search on the 2004-2008 forum...I had a 2007 with the 5.4 and it could be a few things most notably the injectors or cam phasers...I remember mine sounding a lot like a diesel engine.
