Thought about it but the silicon will make future removal difficult.

I went to Home depot and bought a sponge type window seal. I have removed the garbage that came from FORD and replaced it, when the rain starts I will find out if it worked..

Might try the pressurized cabin trick to check for leaks...

I used silicone on my new LED cargo light. No leaks.

Here's another option if you're concerned about removal;

Amazon.com: 3M 08578 Black 1' Strip Calk: Automotive Amazon.com: 3M 08578 Black 1' Strip Calk: Automotive

Well.... It leaked again with this last heavy rain, so it's back into the dealership. It rained heavy all day and it's only a few drops of water so it's an extremely small leak, but nonetheless still a problem.

I'll keep you updated.

I've owned several different brands of automobiles in my whole live long life and the ONLY brand that allowed water intrusion is/was FORD!

Including my '10 XLT.

The water intrusion is bad enough by it's ownself, but add humidity and hot summer days and your vehicle starts smelling like the Laker's locker room.

Sad is what it is.

My last truck was a Dodge. Head over to the ram forums for a while if you want to read about water intrusion.

My 02 leaked every time it rained from the pillar handle on both sides and the threads about 3rd brake light leaking were non stop.

Trust me its not only Ford.

A co worker of mine used to work at a glass shop and found that anytime silicone was used for a makeshift repair around a window, it would cause the metal to rust bad. I believe it is due to the release of acetic acid which is used to cure the silicone. Glass shops normally use a butyl rubber sealant that is not corrosive like silicone.

Good point, I used the Permatex Ultra Black RTV, non corrosive.

I wonder how much money they've saved over the years by deciding to cheap out on the gaskets and seals at these locations, versus the amount of money they've spent on dealer repairs and associated negative word-of-mouth? It isn't as if this is a particularly difficult engineering problem, so it can only be a cost-cutting/bottom-line thing.

The sunroof on my 2012 FX4 was leaking at about 12k miles. The headliner still has a stain on it that the dealership never fixed.
