Default Must Have Mods

I find as I get older, my "needs" change.

We don't buy new vehicles. I prefer them 2-6 years old. I can always find low mileage, mint condition vehicles for a large discount over new.

Buying used means I don't get the cool new stuff when its new and Im limited on color and options. Trucks and SUVs are the big sellers nowadays and its a lot of work finding them used with low miles.

That's how I ended up with a 2010 XL. I want white and most of the white trucks are XLs. I got lucky that the PO put 18in wheels on it and ordered it with the Plus and Power Packages.

Now I find that between the rake, higher ride height due to the taller tires and the ARE bed cover, Im having a hard time backing it up. Im also having a hard time getting in and out of it.

I would never have dreamed of owning a truck with running boards and a backup camera. But now those are must haves for me. GPS too, I don't like to use the phone and I don't like stuff above the dash, so indash nav is on the must have list as well.

I guess its all part of getting older.

Problem here is used trucks hold their value, when I went looking for used, sticker price wasn't much less than new, maybe a grand or so. Made no sense to buy used when new was so close in price. I didn't order mine, just picked one off the lot and never looked back.

I bought my 2014 F150 as the first new vehicle I've had, but I got it in April '15 as a leftover so I got a huge discount on top of all kinds of other rebates and stuff, I paid just shy of $10k lower than the MSRP. A deal too good to pass up. I didn't get everything i wanted, like a 5.0 or a black truck, but I'll live. I have seen VERY few F150s, even as old as 09 selling for less than I paid for a brand new one. If I hadn't gotten a deal like this, I also would have went the used route.

I like having running boards on my trucks. Gives people something to kick to get the snow off their boots in the winter and not cover my rockers in salt.

I also like having knobby mud tires, or at least aggressive all terrains. They are often noisy, and don't help fuel mileage, but when I need my truck to get somewhere, I don't want it to let me down.

I've also started tinting all of my own windows to keep wandering eyes from seeing anything they might like to walk off with. Keeping honest people honest.

By the time I finish with my 2010 I will have 16k into it.

I will only put about 5k a year on it. But when you need a truck, you need a truck.

My misses has a 2014 Mustang that we bought this year and I have a 2015 Indian that I bought new, as well as my Dodge Caliber that I use for work and a 1964 F100 and her 2007 Harley. I didn't need any vehicle payments or the insurance on a new truck so I paid cash and Im happy to give up a few amenities in exchange.

I have a set of Single cab running boards off a Tremor for sale if you are interested. Not sure what cab you have, but I see a lot of XL's in single.

Needs....wants.... Same thing lol

I will say this, when you buy used or new, the more mods you do, the more it becomes yours.
Awesome feeling.
I don't miss all the problems I had with my 04 but I miss very badly all the things I did to it.
Bought a '13, already pretty deep into the mods.... Gotta love it, now the wife on the other hand....

It all depends on what you're going for as far as "Must Have" mods go. All of my mods were must have Before and after shots. I think you can tell which ones are "before".
