Default Muffler Size

This is my first post and I'm a new F150 owner. (Just got my '13 5.0 about a month ago)
I have been reading about swapping the muffler to get a better sound. I am leaning towards the Magnaflow 5x8x18. I don't know which muffler to buy. I'm guessing that it is the "Center/Offset, 3"in/3"out". Is this right?

How is the tone inside the cab? Any drone?
I'm looking for something that growls outside but I would still like to be able to talk on the phone inside. I look forward to reading the write up.

So mine would be 3" si/so, center/center also? I'm keeping the stock pipes all the way through.

its a quite a growl in the lower gear from 1500 thru 2300 or so but once up to gear its fall right off ..i took a small jaunt down the highway and 60mph CC set and it just barley notice able..it growls from the outside most def. i havent made a call yet..but if i acceleted slow, for me it shouldnt be a problem..but yes 3 single in/ single out center/center is what i now have down there..the shop asked about keep res. and i said pull it...but since your keeping all the pipe and just muff swap you should be good to go!

I put a 14 inch magnaflow muffler on my truck using existing single exhaust with 3 in/3 out. It has a nice sound cruising but a bit loud inside with a moderate acceleration . I would think the 18 inch would be quieter.

I'm torn between the 18 and the 14. I would be ok with a deep sound during acceleration but I don't want it loud on the interstate.
Did you keep the resonator? Would you stay with the 14" if you could do it over?

The 14 inch on mine is deeeep sounding on acceleration but normal cruising is not to bad. I am a 62 year old man but yes I would buy the 14 again and I did keep my resonator.

I got a quote from a reputable truck shop for $75 installation and $89.17+tax for the muffler. They show Magnaflow part number 12226 which is 2.5" in/2.5" out, center/offset. Maybe I should just take it to them and let them do the install and be done with it.

hey mposs.. i just got my res put back in this morn and the best way i can say it is that its like butter!! its soo smooth now not drone no pop and its falls off real fast one i hit 4th! its great! so mine is now 3" at Y then 3" pipe to cut down res. 2.5" then back to 3" in the back side of res to 3" borla and out!..i would get a 3" maggie and just have them expand the 2.75 sec of pipe to make it fit to 3" pipe but def keep res.!
