Default Mud Flaps and keep side steps?

Hey guys I was wondering what type of options are out there for mud flaps. The stock plastic ones don't do a very good job so I was looking to replace them with something that is longer and wider so it can be offset from the flare to stop mud/dirt from skirting up the side of the truck when you turn the wheels.

I live in an area that had brutal winters and heavy usage of salt so that's why I am wondering if I should remove or leave on the stock side steps? I rather the look without, and after already having them on one winter they seem to hold winter grime up.

I was thinking of getting some transport flaps and cut them to what I want and mount them somehow but I was curious what other options out there are there for good protection that looks good? Big flares just cause rust here from salt getting underneath.

Once this is decided after the level and AAL go on she will be mostly done for this summer anyway.

I'd be interested in seeing different takes on mud flaps.
I want them, but I don't want to "slow down" the looks of the fx4.
Plus, I realize a lot of you have commuter cars, and flip out when it's raining, because..you're also getting much more tire spray.

I live in over a dirt road and I frequent some pretty muddy/rocky roads and just want to prevent as much damage as I can, as well as stopping as much winter damage as I can.

I seen some Ford heavy duty flaps they came out with this year, real nice looking but still almost look too short for what I am looking for.
